The second between West Ireland and St Brendans was a great game to watch. Played more like traditional gaelic rather then this "rock & Roll" version of the game. Only thing questionable was the scoring. Officially the umpire has it as W.I ireland winning by 7 points but this is VERY debateable.

Nevertheless it will be WI vs Onkas next wednesday night. Led to believe there is a bit of tension between the 2 squads so could be an entertaining affair.

was not 7 points swoop. only 3 WI 3:21 30 to the taints 5:12 27. was a very good game and looking forward to tonights rematch.

Asked the umpire to confirm and check the score after the game. he clarfied to the Taints it was W.I 3.27 - St B 5.14.

Anyway that was just a warmup to tonights clash. As Wednesday proved these 2 sides match up very evenly with each other and generally produce very high standard, close games. Dont expect tonight to be any different.

Unfortunately i will be at Laneway so wont be in attendance. Does http://www.gaelicfootballsa.com.au/ do live streaming of games yet...?

Western Ireland beat the Taints by....3-5 points? I dont quite recall the score!

We only managed to kick 1 point in the first half from around 10 scoring shots, and went in to half time well behind. We came back strongly (a beautifully worked goal within 15 seconds of the restart) but Western Ireland did enough to keep their noses in front for a deserved victory.

Some good signs for the Taints tho, and amazing news - for the first time in St Brendan's history the next round could see the introduction of a few warm up drills before our game - instead of just pottering around talking bollocks and trying to hit free kick screamers past the keeper! Our starts have been woeful...

I have a few more details of the presentation night, but not all of them yet!

Date: Friday Night 26 February 2010.
Venue: The German Club (223 Flinders st) look past the irony of holding a clearly Irish game at a German venue to the fact we can attack some quality German beers and food!
Time: I dunno yet - but a perusal of their website says they have a happy hour from 5:30pm to 6:30pm - so get there for 5:30!
Cost: $15 a head
Entertainment: Mid 80's Gaelic trivia with Major Gun and Oneill's Only, and the Wristwatcher after 5-10 steins! Also should be able to fit in Team of the years and the Gabe Phillips awards etc.

IIRC its usually Fringe time as well, and it looks like a short walk from the German Club to the Garden of Unearthly delights after prezos wrap up. Put it in your social or iPhone calenders people!

Funny shit TC. Very good.

Happy Hour at the German Club was a regular visit for me as a 17 year old. Loved those $1.00 jugs. If they still have that deal, dont ask me, or very obviously O'Neils only, any trivia questions after 5.45pm...

Is it true that the Taints have taken over the running of the SA Men's team? Auckland watch out...

I could bring along some slides and I have some old reels we can watch. 70's and 80's finals.

I don't know about that - I can talk about the 80's all night. Not too many people can out drink me and still be standing at the end. Maureen Lawlor can match it with anyone and can claim to have an edge over me (after a big night out keeping up with Bat lawlor on the Irish Mist).

Nah, funny thing you know, photos from those trips conv... I mean mysteriously, disappeared. Can't find the negs either. Memory is a bit hazy too. I do remember us all exchanging pleasantries with the NSW Minor Rugb ...I mean Gaelic, team Coach in the change rooms after a game once.
Anyway, enough of that. I don't know if I'm gonna be there on the 26th.

Tips for today's games:
NAF v IA: NAF by plenty. Wes Lehmann was invited to play for IA in the NAF/IA Victor Harbor rematch - but chickened out.
FON v MIT: Mitcham in a close one to stay in the race and create Match of the day a week later.
NAF v WI (Women): NAF easy.

Today's results...

Game 1- Another forfeit under the 'Irish Australians' banner. This goes with the Rovers and the collapse of the Cougars. One has to ask what the benefit of so many teams (or having the President in your corner) under one banner provides apart from the obvious tax benefits. Good to see the ref played 10 minutes injury time (in both halves) of a forfeit. The second game starting 20 minutes late. Anyway I'm sure the committee members present took note and will discuss this at tomorrow's meeting. My tongue just put a hole in my cheek after that comment.

Game 2- Women's- Na F 0-6 v W.I 4-11. ONO was way off on this one but compared to when these team met 9days ago (W. Ireland .8 (8) Na Fianna 6.7 (25))who can blame him?

Game 3- O'Neils easily in the end (from what I saw in between enjoying the refurbishments in the bar at St. Mary's especially for this game.)

Flinders by about 10 points in the end I think after giving Mitcham an eleven point head start.

Not sure who the big red head is for Mitcham but someone needs to give the big fella a box of tissues, im not sure Ive ever seen a bloke winge so much!!

Anyway this wins sets up a massive game in a fortnight when we take on Na Fianna with the winner to claim fourth spot. WI and Onkas to battle it out for top spot, St Brendans have cemented third with Flinders to pick up fourth spot :)

Would almost rather get thumped Callington style than forfeit

Fair effort by the ref and the Nafs to hang around..and play a scratchy..credit to both

Great to see Norm reinact the performance of Wes in season's past.

VERY DISSAPOINTING FORFEIT by I.A, I think MG has already touched on a few of the issues in relation to this.
My next concern probably could be a stranger running the bar but she did such a good job i think we should employ her full time. Well done Mitcham.
Finally a lot of discussion on sunday centered around "What do you get for your $15 entry at Presentation night?"
Best Answer i heard was: A chance to see the commitee at a Gaelic event!!! :o

Ah wristy, very funny. You and CT should do stand up at the German Club...now that I would pay $15 bucks for.

Has anyone been asked to nominate team of the year candidates yet??

Go to the PNUFC on a saturday night & you'll get to hear the Wristwatch talk for an hour straight for free.

On what the $15 gets you, the second best response I heard to this was "$15 better get me a team of the year member medal"

I have also heard the St Brendans boys have come to the aid of the state mens team. I heard a good quote the other day along the lines of "if Gino's involved at least you know it will be a good trip"

Hmmmm how is a forfeit by Irish Australians men’s team the President's or the Committees fault…?? Last week they had enough players to play a 15aside match and win comfortably… This thread is starting to resemble the Adelaidenow website with the GFHASA Committee playing the role of Mike Raan and a few posters playing the role of opinionated oddballs with hidden agendas who manage to blame every bad happening in the world at Mike Raan's feet?!

It seems to me that the biggest problems/complaints on here seem to occur when a team is rostered to run the day that has no person on the committee... I see the GFHASA AGM is coming up. Here’s hoping that the GFHASA receive committee nominations from each team as there is currently no-one from Na Fianna men or women, Western Ireland women, Irish men, Onkas men, Flinders men, Mitcham men, or Irish men on the committee. Its quite clearly the mens teams who need to get involved more in regards to helping run the comp, as there are only 2 blokes on there at the moment. Neville Bartross? Milky Bar Kid? Breaking Balls? I believe ONO, WW, and MG have done their turn. Its not hard! If the notoriously un-organised St Brendan’s can get their $hit together and “get with the program” then anyone can…!!
