Have a problem with a couple of Keys on my laptop. They dont seem woorking. What should i do. Was thinking of taking it to A&R to see if they could help me

Depending on how old it is mate they're just about throw away items these days. Only really worth fixing if its under some sort of warranty.
Try and find someone who can pull them apart and put them back together safely.
A&R would be the last place I'd go.
I"ll talk to my expert mate on Monday and see what he suggests.

Just spoke to my brother and he said they might just by a new keyboard.

I'd say it is just a new keyboard needed but Im not sure how easy/how much they are with a laptop, if you don't get any more advise I'll let you know what I find out on Monday.

Sometimes the keys on my laptop don't work because there is something under them - dust, crumbs etc. I just pull them off and brush out the inside, then put them back on.

The guy at A&R said it would cost half as a new one to repair. So i just decided to buy a keyboard instead of paying to repair it.

Yeah I agree and if you use it mainly at home definately the best option, we have a seperate mouse, keypad and screen for our gaming laptop, very rarely use the thing by itself unless interstate.

off topic but thought it was a good place to continue my IT progression from novice to rookie

Firstly Ill brag a little, Ive had an old acer laptop that the power connection died, got it fixed but 3 months later it died again, we got all the stuff off it that we needed before it died thankfully - for some reason I chucked it under the bed never to reappear until yesterday. About 4 months ago our newest laptop (also an acer) was dropped by Mrs Dutchy and the screen smashed, the PC part worked fine jsut didnt have a screen, i hooked it up to a monitor and it has worked fine since but not as a true laptop cause it is no longer portable....looked into a new screen and looks like the cheapest was $150 off ebay.....then i had a light bulb moment, would the screen from the older laptop that was useless fit in the new laptop considering they were both acer? quickly measured it up and googled both models and it seems i had a match.....so i took apart the old one with little idea of what i was doing with connections etc etc, just followed my nose and put it into the newer laptop, took about half an hour and a lot of mucking around with little screws etc and then hit the power button...sent up a prayer and bingo it worked! quite proud of myself and for the first time in years Mrs Dutchy was impressed with me

Next question I have for the gurus is, the old dud laptop - i took out the hard drive also, is there anyway you can get a connection to make it connect to a USB of another PC and use it like an external hard drive?

CP amongst all the letters and numbers on the sticker it has 5400rpm ATA/IDE does this makes sense?
