SANFL really has to get their act together if it want's go ahead in the 10's.....
Someone should be accountable for every SANFL team.
Who are they..?
If they don't improve, get rid of them..!
Maybe 8 teams is the way to go......

This would mean that Centrals (the richest club) wouldn't be able to recruit the best interstate players... call me crazy!!!

Our recruiting success has nothing to do with money,
Had you heard of these bloke before they came over to Centrals
-Chad O'Sullivan
-James Gowans
-Chris Gowans
-Andrew Hayes
-Trent Goodrem
-Jason MacKenzie
There all blokes who we have recruited (the first3 from interstate) and were no means lured over here by money, they were no names with lots of potential we scouted out as possible good players who looked like they would come over hear for the long haul. I can guareentee there are rank players at other SANFL clubs on alot more coin than these blokes.
And to say it's only a interstate recruits is just a myth from the grand final team last we had 7 interstate players.

-C.O'Sullivan
-C.Gowans
-J.Gowans
-T.Goodrem
-A.Hayes
If you went through the stats last season most teams would have fielded at least 7 interstate players a game.

Where do you think that Ryan Williams and Lee Spurr came from?

Still over half the team are from South Australia so i still believe the statement "This would mean that Centrals (the richest club) wouldn't be able to recruit the best interstate players... call me crazy" is totally incorrect.

Crows 98 from 5 (only one I think)SnappyTom wrote:

Crows 3 times in 98 finals series, and there are a few others

So it's as I suspected, Zathrus. No more competitive than the SANFL.
1998 was quite the quirk then - Cows won their GF from 5th (albeit '5 of 8'), Port Adelaide beat Sturt in the GF coming from 5th ('5 of 5'). Port therefore had to beat a higher ranked opponent in all four matches, as with Norwood in 1984.
I'd say overall the SANFL is more competitive* than the AFL in percentage terms relating to finals, and no different i breadth of capability from the top team to the bottom team...
ST...
* from 2000 to 2009 inclusive, six SANFL teams (67%) have played in a Grand Final. Not a bad % of SANFL fans covered in the decade. Interestingly we have had four different teams playing Centrals in the last four (Eagles, North, Glenelg & Sturt). I suspect that would have been rare in both the Sturt and Port dominant eras - cue Spelly)...

I think Central outspent other clubs early on to build their team and, IMO, were mega-dollars over the cap. However, that meant they were able to just 'top-up'' nicely after that, as you say, so good luck to them.

Shouldn't it be ''We're English, we drink our beer. You're Australian, you just excrete it.''redandblack wrote:Good post, AB.
