Remember though, "Viking" was an activity [something like hunting or raiding] not a race of people.

It was undertaken by various Germanic tribes, Frisians, Angles, and Saxons in what is now northern Germany, Jutes and other groups from what became Denmark, and outlying settlements in the future Sweden and Norway. Generally those from the Danish region amalgamated first and swept south to Britain and Normandy, which those from Norway went around via Scotland to Ireland and the Lancashire region on the west coast of Britain. The future Swedes were than left with the inland route down the rivers into the future Russia and their descendants even ruled Antioch in "Palestine" until Raymond of Tolouse took over the title of Prince of Antioch during the First Crusade.

The remnants of Frisian written records are small, but are readable by anyone familiar with the old English of Chaucer's time.
The modern Anglo-Saxon title of "Earl" is derived from "Jarl", a title for a warrior leader, obtained by force of arms.
Most of eastern Britain from the north bank of the Thames to southern Scotland was under the "Danelaw" for a very long time so many of the English are of "Viking" descent - including me, though I have Celtic ancestry too...

Yes actually..
In the last few months, I've read a "History of the Vikings", and a history of the first crusade, a book about the Frisian legends and tales surviving in Irish sagas, including the old texts and translations, and an interesting one entitled "How the Irish Saved Civilisation". [And I can read the Old English of Chaucer's time, albeit slowly.]
For a lighter change I'm now reading Tolkien's kid's story "Roverandom", which I hadn't come across before.

Well I don't really know what to say except that I think you should change your name from 'Psyber' to 'Funk and Wagnell'...
Very impressive young man ;)

What was interesting was that Raymond of Toulouse obtained the Prince of Antioch title, in his 40s, by marrying the heir apparent, the 8 year old Princess Constanza..
IIRC, she was 15 or 16 when she produced their first child.

I was supposed to have studied this in Scandinavian history at uni, but our lecturer was possibly senile (retired the following semester) so we didn't learn much! All I remember is that there were no Vikings (or people that participated in Viking activities ;) ) in Finland, but I don't remember why that was the case.

I'm not sure about that , but they are a different people whose language is only related to one other - Hungarian.
Allegedly they migrated out of Asia - perhaps Siberia - and then split, one group going north and one south.
