Heard the whiting are biting at Maslins - I'd use cockles for the bait. How far away is too far to go fishing? Should be leatherjackets off the rocks at Myponga.

My Australia day flick
Well I got this PM on a fishing site from someone who wanted to learn to SWFF.They said they'd meet me at a certain beach by 7.30am.I got there at 7 fished until 8.Only a lure fishing mate turned up including the fish being a no show.
So I drove to the other side of the lake .My mate said the wind would be in my face and it was .So I walked past the bait fishers to the other end of the beach and before the next bait fisher .Waded out and the wind was at my back well almost.
Just before 9am this little 20cm Bream grabbed my fly.At one stage I thought she was a bit bigger the fight she put up was great for her size.
Sorry the best of the bad pictures I took of this fish
Image
So I released that 20cm fish and a couple of casts .Well ok a bad cast latter and this tiny bream grabbed the fly .
Image
Same fish with a mouthful of fly
Image
So once again I released the fish and casting away .This is when I really someone shooting a video .I'll do my best to describe this 21cm fish .She jumped about 20-30cm away from the fly straight up in the air and then across and landed on top of the fly .took the my surface popper and ran. She'll wasn't going anywhere except on the bank for a picture or two!!
Image
And the bad fly picture
Image
One more as she was my biggest fish of the day
Image

And that was my Australia day flick.By then I was back to the bait fishers .
Cheers

Over the last few years yep .The 25cm and the others the last couple of trips have come from two beaches I have fished a lot the last couple of years.I wasn't going back there today until I got that PM.
Today's second beach I hadn't fished much last year or so far this year .Just found out it was dodge tide lucky I didn't know before I went would have stayed home
For the record this beach had produced my largest Bream on fly at 28cm a few years back.
Going to break that record soon I hope ;)
Going to head to a different spot Saturday .the locals know me to well fish and ones with legs ;)

Got back from yorkes on monday
went fishing saturday night and sunday night my mates went
sat night produced a haul of at least 50 legal salmon, mainly between 1-1,5kg with a few 2kg ones
we kept about 20 that we took back and filleted and cooked up
the rest we chucked back or gave to other who werent as lucky

sunday nigth i didnt head down but the boys got another 10-15 they reckon, all which they threw back

so overall was a real good time fishing, surfing and drinking over yorkes!

Re: FISHING

Postby Mickyj » Sat Jan 30, 2010 12:33 pm

Well en-route to West Lakes I changed my mind where I would have a fish.I drove to a street which has two small beaches .
First beach(Booneys beach to u and me) second bam I on and off thinking this is a good omen .I continued on with Council workers digging up the reserve next to me .I landed this little 18 cm Bream
Image

I had a lot of more jumps from tiny fish but no more hook ups.And with the council workers getting louder I decided to head two minutes up the road. When I got to beach number 2 a very very large excavation machine thundered past me on a truck.Perhaps it was wise to have moved.

Took awhile for this beach a few jumps and tiny fish that spat the fly .When I got another 18 cm bream. Now I must apologise as for some reason my camera work now went out the window!!
Image
Watching tiny fish attack this fly while it was stationery .I thought perhaps the larger ones would hit a moving fly .
And while moving I got hit and landed an even smaller bream of 16 cm
Image

Now a sane man would have gone home but not me :D .While families arrived in canoes and with dogs swimming .I kept wading .I put my fly out and wham bam I was on with a stonker .I thought I had set the hook but no missed it

So one more cast as its getting onto 9am I thought and another I just kept going toward the pedestrian bridge.A few small fish popping out and then bam this one felt larger .I fought it for a short while saying don't lose this one .At first I thought it was fouled hook but it wasn't and there were 3 Bream the same size following it in !!!
It was more like a dead weight than a fight but I landed a slightly bigger fish at 22cm.Not as large as I had hoped but here is a bad pic.

Image

And with dogs and swimmers getting closer that was my morning flick.
Four fish landed and I was happy

Yep its been a warm 36c here today Jas.Been drinking cold diet lemonade and lime cordial I go all out here   ;)
Been getting quizzed by lure fishers asking me where I fish .You fish the northern end of the lake yep but today's catch came from two different beaches .
Amazing what a piece of foam and feathers tied and super glued on to a hook can catch.
And for the better fishers I understand that mini bream are nothing compared to Snapper and Salmon . ;)

:( hate discovering that your temperature in Celsius is the same as mine in Farenheit

Stuff the so called 'better fishers' it's not the size that counts...you've used far more skill than most of them have in their little fingers...you created your weapon of choice and it's a success...far greater reason to be proud of even the smallest of fish imho :D
