CRAIG PARRY ... RECRUIT OF THE YEAR! =))

Think you've just confirmed the level of intelligence of most South Adelaide supporters  If I recall South actually recruited Parry from Port Magpies and look how that ended up! I think you'll find Parry wanted to participate in finals hence his departure from the basket case at Noarlunga. Most would claim Scotty Welsh as RECRUIT OF THE YEAR!

For the Eagles or the entire SANFL? Parry wanted to attend Las Vegas for 10 days during the season was the reason why he left.

Eagles

and I find your latter point difficult to believe!

Ruckman’s roulette

NOARLUNGA OR VEGAS: Craig Parry had to choose between
going to a friend's wedding Las Vegas or staying at South.

SOUTH Adelaide ruckman Craig Parry was forced to choose between a pre-booked trip to Las Vegas or staying at the Panthers last week.

In the wake of the state ruckman’s shock departure from Noarlunga, Parry has revealed the ultimatum was put to him by new coach Ron Fuller who refused to allow him to travel to the US for one of his best friend’s wedding in March next year because it would mean missing a game.

Parry, who said he had already been given clearance by former coach Clay Sampson to make the trip, was disappointed by the way the issue was handled.

``It came as quite a shock when Ron called and said I couldn’t go,’’ Parry said.

``It’s disappointing because I had already met with Ron and committed to the club and was looking forward to beginning a new era under him.’’

Fuller’s stance on the issue appears to be part of a deliberate approach to change the culture at South.

One of his first messages to the playing group was that he is not a players’ coach and he has warned any players taking holidays during the pre-season training period will be forced to play in the Reserves for the club’s first two trial matches.

This includes star full-forward Ben Warren, who will miss a week of training in January to get married.

``Everyone’s got to be treated the same,’’ Fuller said.

``I’m not here to make friends. It’s got to be about the players that adhere to the rules.. especially here at South Adelaide, we’ve got to do it better than anyone else.’’

Fuller said Parry had failed to inform him of the trip when the pair had their first player-coach meeting.

South CEO Ben Kavenagh backed Fuller’s approach.

``We finished ninth last season so we need to do things differently, do things smarter,’’ he said.

Parry’s departure and the club’s failure to sign Michael Griffiths from East Fremantle leaves the Panthers’ ruck stocks thread-bare.

Fuller said there was ``still a lot of recruiting to be done’’.

Parry, who signed with Woodville-West Torrens for three years last week, has been one of South’s most outstanding players since joining the club in 2005.

He is a three-time state ruckman and finished runner-up in the best and fairest in 2006, the last time the Panthers played in the finals.

``I enjoyed my time at South,’’ Parry said.

``I want to thank the players, support staff, supporters and major sponsors especially Tony Boyle from Southgate Holden for the last six years. It’s a shame it had to end this way.’’

Surely you would know how he injured it then if you know the story that he told the club was fictitious??

I guess he's going to end up playing about as many games as if he had of stayed at South and been available from round 1 - he's just going to start a few weeks later but play for a few weeks longer than what South will be.

Just depends if he does not have a holiday somewhere in the world booked at finals time (if you make it)... ;)

The thread is about Parry's shoulder - The Panthers are only involved because Parry left the club - as he also did with the MAGPIES

A small piece on Parry's shoulder from the Messenger web site...

Parry sidelined for three months

ON YOUR BIKE: Parry (far right) at training last week.

NEWLY-signed Woodville-West Torrens ruckman Craig Parry will be sidelined for at least three months after having shoulder surgery yesterday.

The 26-year-old, who joined the Eagles from South Adelaide late last year, damaged a tendon in the joint earlier this month.

Parry’s injury leaves coach Michael Godden without a top-line ruckman following the retirement of Brad Dabrowski.

But Godden said he was confident Power-listed youngster Jarrad Redden and Glenelg recruit Seb Guilhaus could fill the breach.

Godden said he had light-heartedly suggested to ruck coach Rhett Biglands he could step in, but the former Crows player, who retired in 2008 but still trains with the Eagles, declined.

The Eagles, including Western Bulldogs recruit Scott Welsh, resumed training following the Christmas break.

Godden said he was yet to decide whether Mark McKenzie would continue on as skipper.

``The players will vote on the leadership group in the next two to three weeks and then the captain will be chosen in consultation with me,’’ he said.

he advised a couple of South players it was water skiing - but told club he slipped on a sprinkler! 8-[

Probably assumed the Club would not be impressed with him even thinking about water skiing with the prolific shoulder injury history he has had. [-x

I'm still staggered Parry's managed to pinch the 'injury recovery bike reserved for Mr. Stephen Doyle during preseason training' away from him.

Not sure what you have against Parry, Bunton... Let it go mate, he has left us - we believe we are better off (I really do believe that) and so do the Eagles (let them think it!). Your personal vendetta against Parry just makes it look like sour grapes.

Bunton wrote:pretty sure I read he's going over easter - that's round 2! ;)

And considering he gets back the Friday before Rd 3, you'd think he'd miss that as well. BUT, I assume with the "new culture" GOD is creating, he'll be rewarded for this trip by being rushed straight back into the one's in Rd 4, so he's primed for the Rd 5 Fuller - Parry Cup at Noarlunga Oval on easter Monday ... assuming he has not done his shoulder by then.

can't believe it  our fearless ex-ruckman is going in for another shoulder reco.

I'm back on the eagles bandwagon now. Reckon they'll be a much better side without that showpony prancing around. And Guilhouse may stay at the Club now that they will be forced to play him in the League team.

Correct Booney - same person that informed me of the injury in the first place, which I then was first to share, with those that give a rats ass, on this site. :-bd

Anyway would love to know if it is true - for some reason neither the official word from WWT or eagles gurus on this site have mentioned how it happened, which seems a bit odd - I'm interested to know if my mail-man is accurate again or not? :-c
