Speaking to a local Hopetoun lad last night and he confirmed he heard Burdett was heading home for the clubs possible last season in 2010. He grew up with him in Hopetoun and said he heard he was getting some pretty good coin to go home.

Have to say would be a long way to travel each week however if the price is right and your junior club is going to shut down it would be enough tempation.

Correct, he will not be at Compass in 2010. Will he convince anyone else to leave.....

Might have a crack at a ladder prediction:

Victor Harbor - got to be careful having too many recruits but have added plenty of quality
Willunga - gutsy move to suggest that they will come second, but it will happen one day
Strathalbyn - always around the mark. lost a few gained some good ones
Yank - not only have they recruited a quality midfield. rumours suggest they have also added a forward or 2
Creeks - off the boil slightly. energy around the club would be dwindling after a decade that included a few misses

Compass - a solid, well drilled side. Burdetts loss would be heart breaking as well as the youngsters leaving for Meadows
Goolwa - lost key forward, gained a few but not making real in roads on the top five
McLaren - as with most lower order clubs, struggling to bridge the gap with some big improvers at the top
Myponga - as above
Bays - not much info about the bays, so could be a dark horse

From an outsider i'm a little surprised about the hype re Yank. I would think they'd have to recruit 7 or 8 absolute quality players to be able to have the depth to make the 5 and be a challenger for top 3.

Some of the names they had at a recent meet the coach day / get together suggests they have done excactly that. One of the forwards (whos name escapes me) is a 100 goal forward

Heard he was staying in Canberra, if its the same one your talking about, name escapes me. Rumor has it that his club (its a footy rumor so it must be true) offered him an extra $10k to stay.

Billy Neely,gun mid fielder

i wouldnt get to excited at yank, heard they have recruited an old bay recruit Pete Zwar? he came to the bay under bass with a great reputation, think he played 2 a grade games and then the rest in the b grade. I wouldnt be throwing the cash that they apparently are at him, unless he has improved dramatically over the past couple of years.

Pete is actually going to play at Yank because one of his good mates is the coach there now. I would be suprised if he was actually taking any money off of them.

Could one of those Bens & the Nick be the mighty Vezis brothers? kicked aver 150 goals between them last year...would be very handy pick-ups

Kung Fu Panda is on top of it apart from the "they went for plenty" part. Fit, young and quick will be good.

I think you will Ben Yeomans has gone to Goowla as his brother plays there and this is the reason not cash. Nick Ferguson is his mate so possibly why he has gone there two.

Ben played a couple League games for South last year and also played a couple games for Goowla. Top bloke haven't see him play though but from what I understand hated the way South was run and they went about the behind the scenes stuff.

Couple of great young footballers. A bonus for the Pies is that Ben Yeoy was signed last season so he has become one less point too. Can't wait to see these two in action this year.

LF, heard there was 30+ at training monday in 40+ degree heat, including Nathan Edginton-Fry, who looks in much better shape than he has in the last 3 years! Good start for the club!
