Agree, seen him give many young up and coming South Aussie bands a absolute "knock down" in confidence ....

I am not trying to run the place down by saying this, but Adelaide does have a country town feel to it. I think what causes this is that the million odd people who live there are not boosted by any nearby outer populations.
For example: I live one hour's drive from Fukuoka City. Official population of about 1.2 million. But the population of Fukuoka prefecture, (which is physically way smaller than South Australia) is somewhere in the 6 million range. On any working day the city swells to about 2 or 3 times its official population due to commuters, shoppers etc.
Osaka City has a population of about 2 million, but big population centers like Kobe and Kyoto are about an hour's train ride away. And those places are not seperated by trees and farmland and stuff, it is metropolis the whole way between them. Some population figures in Japan are purely aritrary IMO. They are in fact much larger.
Adelaide has a million people, and it is usually the same million people just about every day.

Are the big eastern state cities really all that more appealing? Probably if you are young and had the opportunity to work and live close in to the CBD, but apart from that they appear to be just a bigger version of urban sprawl. Talking to people about getting around, even just for weekend activities, sounds like a nightmare.
There's one thing SA will never have that the eastern states have, and that is convicts :D

I don't know, I find getting around in Melbourne to be a breeze compared to Adelaide, the public transport system is top notch and very easy to understand, and the freeway system over there for driving is fantastic.

The big appeal for me is the range and number of sporting events in Melbourne,
International, Tennis, Golf, Rugby, Soccer
10x AFL Teams, 2x A-Leauge Teams(2010/11), 1x Super Rugby Team(2011), 1x Rugby League Team
Spring Racing Carnival
F1
Rugby League State Of Origin
Plus a few of the best stadiums in the country, you just cant really beat it.

Yeah agree with Sam, im not an Adelaide hater but much prefer Melbourne for the endless amounts of sports and concerts held there, as well as the very easy access public transport it is superb.

Adelaide= the city of artists impressions.

brisbanes freeway system is a nightmare yes, but it has freeways through the city, corridors which makes it at least a little more better then stop, start all the time like south road.

Lord mayor of brisbane is fast tracking major projects . He has a thing called "tunnel vision" with one tunnel nearly finished and 2 more starting this year.

if adelaide had corridors through the suburbs it would make it more easier for transport and freight.

I watched the Clijsters/Henin match last night and couldn't believe Brisbane's new tennis arena. During speeches the council member paid tribute to the govt & council for creating it from a dis-used old electricty station 2 years ago.

I love Adelaide thru and thru, but even I thought that would never happen here. ](*,)

Reakon you'll really go back after 35 years?

Only been gone 10 years and hardly know anyone back home anymore.

The only reason I go back home now is to see the old duck.

But when she goes...
