Not me personally, my old man played cricket in the Mid North, West Coast and Upper South East and represented each league he plyed in in country carnivals.
I can always remeber him saying that facing former Port Adelaide player, Paul Marrett in the nets at training was the most frightning thing he experienced playing cricket, they played together at Keith before Paul moved to Adelaide to play footy for the Magpies.
He always said Paul was a talent (footy & cricket) wasted by some of the decisions he made and could have gone on to be a great fast bowler at state or even international level with the right attitude.

Played for Elizabeth in the late 80's when they were in ATCA then SACA. Very quick, they called him Stinger for a reason.

Had an odd action too didn't he LM?
I vaguely remember him. Facing him as a kid in the nets was scary is pretty much all I remember.
He won some fast bowling competition at the SCG as a fairly young kid too didn't he?
He was part of a Craigmore High School team that won a national high schools competition in the late 80s/early 90s - which from my understanding was a huge effort by the school, as it's usually won by eastern states private schools.

Correct in all aspects, net practice at Elizabeth was harder than games in the late 80's, there was an abundance of quicks.

The residue of the Dennis Lillee factor.

Or was it the fact that kids down our way had not enough patience to develop their spin....

Faced Peter Gladigau when he was opening the bowling for SA back in the mid-80's and he was pretty swift. ;) Shane George was sharp, but more likely to fell you with a bumper than rattle your pegs. Faced DeFreitas in the PADC nets many moons ago too - sharp, but a complete space cadet.

Locally, have to agree with Stuey Whitehouse as a quality seamer. Timmy Sargent (sp?) from RCP/Goodwood was a great competitor for many years. Robbie "Chrisso" Christensen was a wily old dog, but got half of his wickets because the ATCA umps were too scared not to give them. Damion Reeves was in the Shane George category - very sharp, but all over the place. Also had the privelege of facing 'Big H' Hayden Cawse and 'Fridgey' Frankel in the Berri nets in their prime on hard wicket. Kept you on ya toes. Special mention to my goofy footed mate Paul "Dougie" Stewart from Berri - great bloke and a great bowler, mediums and chinamans.

In Churches, Simon Janetzki and Craig Balneaves are by far the best bowlers I have played with and against.

Dougie Stewart is definitely worth mentioning.
A timeless bowler - amazing given the pressure that action must put on his body.

I suppose I should mention Fridgey too ;)
He'll love it.

Shane George played in one of our work social games, one dude used to give him crap at work, he didn't bowl until this dude came in, he absolutely poohed himself, every ball was a bouncer straight at his scone, hilarious.

Played about half a dozen Country Carnivals (the drinking ones) with Dougie Stewart and it was hilarious watching batsmen play his first delivery.  Not half as hilarious as playing a whole week in the same team as Dougie, had to ice my jaws at the end of the week from laughing so much. ;) Dougie would be without question in my favourite team of Xl players to play with in my time. 8)

Trevor Bailey played a few games at Craigmore in the late 90s from memory, very sharp, ripped Willaston apart one day took 8/7.

Very funny man. Although, he didn't have much to laugh about in the SANFL finals last season, being a Bays man.

I must find my way into one of these drinking carnival teams one day. I've heard it's a lot of fun and given how much fun I had in the proper carnival, it could only get better!

he also spent some time at salisbury, he was quick but because he was short he wasnt that difficult to face id put Damian Reeves in the same category, they both had to bang them in really short to get them up to head high.
Played in a game once up at peteringa where Dave Patrick (salisbury) who was well in his 40's opened against reeves and refused to wear a helmet, sure enough he had his glasses plastered all over his face attempting to hook him

Fridgey does play still. Comes off a two step run up now. lol

I'm hoping my dog whistling works by the way ;)

GH - had Neil in the office today. He was worried about another heart attack coming up teh stairs to our rooms. lol Neil's a nice bloke. Brett destroyed us one day - 150 - before moving to Adelaide. His missus is a top chick.

Another bowler to add to the list is David Burtenshaw, former Tiser writer, now Crows employee. Now I never faced him but a lot of the boys up here still talk about how brisk he was and it's been a long time since he was here.

Dave Burgess had a season with Port Noarlunga in 1987/88.
I was a young colt having an extra "net" with the seniors and it's the last time I did it with Dave around too  .
He was super sharp, if not a bit erratic.
Mark Kittel played that season as well, who a few from GSCA might well know.
Dave was asked to be a net bowler to the Aussies once and broke Alan Borders toe.
