Aside, I'm surprised that this far into the thread nobody has used the phrase "Bloody Port".

It'd be good to get a merger similar to the Wests Tigers in the NRL happening if you could bring successful elements from two different entities together.
For eg. one club with good resources, poor crowds, OK onfield performance, mediocre history and another with poor resources, great crowds and great history, or two middle of the road teams into a super club.
Might not be ideal candidates in the SANFL though.

Not the best example Wedgie, THE reason why I stopped following 'League as a Balmain supporter. Not the most fiancial club too despite the merger

Same reason for me. As a former Western Suburbs supporter I now have little interest.

We don't need a dilution of supporter bases right now IMO, especially the PAM people who would surely wash their hands of the SANFL before they'd support the Western Magpies.

Indeed also if the prison bars go which looks more than likley to happen I wont follow SANFL anymore.

Lets get rid of the Port name. However we will happily take the premierships with them :) lol

If West inherits Port's premierships, does that mean the Adelaide Oval goalpost will be stuck back together?

A West Port merger would not work, simple as that.

Why would a Port fan support the new hybrid? Not when there is Port Power to support.

What is going to happen to their prison bar jumper? Used as an away strip? Well that would stop our (WAFC) few traveling supporters dead in their tracks!!!

Realistically there is a strong possibility that there would be less West/Port supporters at the game after a merger than West supporters before one.

We have gone through a terrible football period for a long time and now there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Bloods supporters have something to look forward to for the first time in a very long time. What have we done wrong to have this opportunity taken away from us?

I’ve been following SANFL for 30 years and in that time every team except Port (and to a lesser degree) Norwood have dropped the ball and spent their time at the bottom, shot bullets, thrown knives and detonated hand grenades. But all of them have found the guts to recover.

Are Port Adelaide that weak that at the first hurdle in living memory they are going to hoist the flag have a cry and go play with the neighbours?

At the end of last season West made a fairly significant loss which was explained as being a result of writing down the value of infrastructure around Richmond Oval, I have not heard as yet what the Profit / Loss statement from the WAFC is. For this merger to take place one would have to think that West Adelaide would have to be in financial problems to be a willing party to it and I think that is going to be highly unlikely.

That said however it would be interesting to see if West have turned around the balance sheet from last year, much has been made that the WAFC club is not located on an arterial road and that a change in that area may need to be looked at for the club to stay financial. So it would be interesting to see if in the space of one year if any turn around has been made for the new management structures put in place.

If it was just Port having a bad run on field I would just laugh and tell them to pull their heads in as all other clubs have done much much worse at times. However Ports problems are off field and thats whats going to kill them if they are not careful.

I couldnt care less if port folded and we had an 8 team comp. Would it still be top 5 make the finals with only 8 teams or do you think a top 4 would be better?

i have no idea why port are in the situation they are in . but why on earth would anyone wish they die is beyond me.they are the most successful club in the football world wtf!! its all about $$ .were gunna kill off nearly a 1/3 of premiership cup holders caus of $$$. piss off. ok the SANFL didnt help a few clubs including my own and that was bullshit by the way, but we cant just let the magpies die, they are a huge part of the SANFL culture. i dont agree with the merger power/magpie and it doesnt look like it will happen anyway but to just let the magpie die is a huge chunk of the SANFL soul gone with it for me. if the magpie dies, the the SANFL will be cordial as far as im concerned.
