How well did he pick that pull shot up.

And as i type, he has just pulled a half volley for four over mid wicket!

Australia 0/46

Hopefully Hughes can keep calm here with Watto smashing it up the other end, he is 9 off 44 but will be doing a good job if he can stay in.

It as an exaggeration that it was not that short but he still got the pull shot away quite easily

AUS now 0/50

I heard on day one that Hughes had extra pressure on him as he was only going to play the one test and be dropped regardless of how he went. I don't really understand this line of thinking, what if he scored ton's in both innings, are we so set in our ways that we can't accomodate for in-form batsmen?
Are batsmen earmarked too often for set places in the batting order? If Hughes was to save the game for us, wouldn't it be benficial to keep him in there and re-jig the line-up? Katich or Hughes to 3, Punter to 6 and North out?
Just a thought, I hear it too often when players get their chance that they are doomed no matter how they go.

Good call that. If Hughes did play well then surely someone like North could drop out instead.

Watto dropped again? Is that 3 times now?

Great call LM, too often selection is based on repuatation, i mean it took katich nearly 2000 ss runs to regain his test spot....

As for watto, the bloke needs luck to go his way, and with him out there we look a chance to salvage the match at least....

I personally would like to see Ponting move to 4/5/6 and hope that rejuvenates his career and prolongs it! We have to remember he is 35 now. His reflexes are not what they were.

North's out of touch at the moment but jeeze it would be harsh to drop him before Hussey after Hussey struggled for so so long and the selectors did nothing about it.

however Hughes has not made a ton in both innings! if he was to make a big hundred today, i would hope they keep him in tho!

Hussey is making runs and North's not, so what the basis of your arguement. North either makes a ton or gets nothing at all. At least Hussey has been getting reasonable starts of late. Most anti-Hussey fans have a pretty selective memory

Im not anti-Hussey at all! He is definitely one of my favourite to watch in the Aussie line up at the moment.

I just find it funny how people have jumped off North so quickly! Hussey went through such a long patch of being out of form, and yes he had some points in the bank because how well he had done previously and how many times he saved our country, but still North has a damn good record for someone starting out in the test arena!

Good 50 for Watto! Has had his fair share of luck but has kept at it, needs to go on with it now.

For those of you watching on the box, which has been the more impressive knock thus far ... Watto for his scoring rate or Hughes for playing against his normal free-flowing style?

Watson is in some great touch. He is just timing the ball as good as anyone at the moment. Its great watching him.
its also great watching a young 21year old, trying to find his feet at this level again, not being able to play his usual game but still hanging in there and putting the bad ball away when it comes!

Contrasting innings yes! Both enjoyable to watch IMO
