Why can they just make the rule that if it hits the rope it's four, doesn't matter if you are over it or not; that deliberation contributes to slow over rates.

Amazing to see that bad habits can creep into a team in a instant, but take a very long time to eradicate.
Here is a pitch that most people have been asking for all summer and the result has been catastrophic for the aussies so far. A player with some application and the correct attitude (think Yousuf) should be able to craft out a good score with plenty of guts. can not look away from the TV at the moment

I agree, should be able to stop the ball by any means.

Well at least if he had batted for 55 balls he would still be there at tea were he can re evaluate the wicket and decide where to go to from there.

Surely you do not think that shot was acceptable in that situation. Maybe your love for 20/20 is starting to come out in the longer form.

In the top 5 - can't understand it. Remember we got easily beaten in that match, too.

He averages 40+ as an attacking free spirited cricketer
If he played responsibly he would prob average about 20

You can comment about Haddin but you should refrain from your 20/20 comments
If you do some reasearch when the score was 2/2 I made a comment pertaining to 20/20

There are no rules on safooty that I have read decreeing me from being able to enjoy all 3 forms of cricket

Now some advice everybody else
Its been one of those days and AU is getting killed
Lets not overcritise our team that has won thier last 3 tests
Dont be front runners, all sports people/teams can be expected to fail or underperform at times
Bradman made 0 in his last Test game
Mal made 1 in his last ninth class game of cricket
Get behind our team and rally please

Fair enough in regards to your comment to my little jab at your 20/20 comments.

But you still avoided my question. Do you honestly think that shot was acceptable in that situation?

I have no problem with Haddins shot
when you are 6 for zip its a matter of working out the best way to get to 200 +
This is how Ponting should advise the batters
HADDIN play norMAL attacking game
MJ look for runs, no point defending its not your style
HAURRIE defend and take the blows to your body if neccessary, dont play any rash shots
SIDDLE value you wicket ,dig in nothing rash
BOLLINGER, shall we declare instead

Ive been a skipper in hard wicket comps
I would always as far as practible say these words 4 the batter going in to bat
"" Play your natural game.""

Of course you advise players to play their naturual game but as a captain you also hope that the players have enough common sense and judgement to evaluate when to play your "Normal" Shots and when it is time to defend and do what is best for your team which for Australia was to have Haddin at the crease at the tea break.

If he thinks that shot is acceptable in that situation well i would be shocked.

Time to educate you boys
Lets go back to Adelaide Oval v WI
AU playing for a draw on day 5
HADDIN played the responsible innings and was not out when called the game off with 5 overs to spare
Thats the 2nd dig, when you need some accountability
It was also a good deck to defend on

Today the cricket ball is doing mystfying things
At 6 for ziltch you need your keeper to blaze a half ton +and rummage a total close to 200
What you dont need is a guy to play against his nature and fail
If he defended for an hour for 10 runs I would have been critical of Haddin

How would Gilchrist have handled this situation ?

If I recall we played a test match one day [was it Pakistan in Perth]
we were 5 for ziltch and Gilly smashed em everywhere and we got 350+

Gilly also did a similar thing in India as well ?

The best value at 5 o6 for ziltch is for your free hitting keepers to play thier natural game
