Hardly good enough stats from a late 20 year old who can't make his shield side, till he moved to NSW and got his baggy green.

Rik E Boy wrote:Nope. Not having it. Hauritz is improving all the time. I'd hardly put Hauritz in the 'overrated' category.REB
You're right, The fact anyone rates him is a mystery.

Rik E Boy wrote:He is earning his stripes. Most perceptive Cricket watchers understand we aren't looking at Warnie here. People are starting to rate Hauritz because he has shown improvement, therefore he is not overrated. How do we know he has improved? Well you said so yourself, he has just taken his first 5 for.REB

What stripes did he earn to get a spot in the side in the 1st place?
NOTHING, except move to NSW.

In case you haven't noticed, the Australian selectors have played a number of spinners since Warne has retired. Hauritz has earnt his stripes and is learning his craft in the TEST TEAM. He got a gig because White and Casson are shite and Krejza racked up more tons than Don Bradman. Haurie wasn't an instant success but give the guy some credit, he is starting to get a bit more turn...you could see it in the last test match. He is learning all the time. But you havent' noticed that because you are one of the many 'BaggyBlue BaggyGreen' parrots. Are you saying that Heal, Simpson, Bailey or Doherty should have gotten a gig before Horrie?

FFS watch him bowl. He is getting better. And once more, if nobody is rating him, how can he be considered overrated? Fair dinkum there are some ******* knockers on this site.

No Problems REB, We'll agree to disagree.
I don't rate Hauritz and think he should never have been picked in the test team.
You think that a 28 year old with his first ever 5for and bowling record equal to Marcus North should be.

What is this "overrated" bit anyway? If a player is overrated ... by whom? I don't think I've heard anyone chirping about how great Hauritz is. To the contrary, I've heard many putting him down, so I cannot understand why he would be overrated.

I said for years before Warne's retirement that the next front line spinner in the Australian team would be judged harshly, and it appears I've been correct. I'm surprised that people still haven't learned that unless a spinner is a natural, or is prepared to bend the rules a little, he will find Test cricket a very tough environment in which to succeed.

Hauritz is there, he deserves to be there, and he has done his bit for Australia. Why people want to keep knocking him is anyone's guess.

I reckon MacGIlls record proved he was a more than adequate replacement, so it appears you may have been incorrect.

Also, show me some figures to say that Hauritz deserved his promotion to the test side.

MacGill played for one year after Warne, and his performances weren't great in that period. I'm talking about Warne's long term successor. MacGill has nothing to do with it.

And, what "figures" need to be shown? Once again, the stats generation think they can win arguments based on numbers.

Players are picked to play for Australia if they have what is deemed to be the "right stuff". What figures did Ian Healy or Shane Warne have?

If we're considering non-Aussies, then Murali has to be up there ... chuckers don't deserve accolades.

Can either of you two redleggers please tell me how Hauritz deserves to be in the test team ?

This coming from a man, who after an Australian scored a test double hundred claimed he wasn't "test standard". :)

Hauritz is our best slow bowling option and therefore he must be picked. When Hodge was at his peak he wasn't in the top six bats in the country. He opened his gob and fell into it. It aint Rocket Surgery my friend.

Cause smithy said REB said Dizzy wasn't up to Test standard to highlight a point.

Whether Hodge opened his gob up or not has nothing to do with the fact that YOU said he wasn't up to test standard after hitting a double ton.
If you think Hauritz is our best slow bowling option at the moment, and his record is average at best, do you think it might be better playing a younger more attacking spin bowler ?

Wrong person Spelly.
I can play back the tape to everyone on here  that REB openly stated that Hodge was NOT test standard after scoring a double ton.
What has this got to do with Hauritz ? Not much other than I'm trying to highlight that REB is happy to back Hauritz in as a test match player for Australia yet say that Hodge wasn't.
I know which player I'd rather have in my team.
