To quote you-
"So, they've gone from crying poor 2 months ago to throwing around money left, right and centre (they've paid atleast $75,000 in transfer fees of late)."
left right and centre? mate give up on the exaggerations, FFS.
Do you understand that we have basically got Hassan and,(take your pick) Hinge or Giles for almost the same price you've paid in transfer fees for Boyd! Do you understand that? Entiendo? Sabes tonto?
Where do you base the $75k at?
Not to mention the "at least" bit.
2 months ago? What orrifice do you find this informative lint in?
Recruit 3 players and it's a sin! I couldn't give a **** how we afford it! If we can then we can. If players see a better future and playing enviroment at Sturt then good. Other's misfortune. Call the Vatican!
One thing you need to look at is the amount of players that have left Sturt to another SANFL club recently, how many of those have gone on to become prominent players, THEN, you want to have a look at how many players have come to Sturt recently, stayed and become better players.
So AK, going on that, once you've done the research, (apart from the paper gossip), try to determine the thinking of the players coming to the club based on recent history and any reasons why they want to leave their present/recent club.
here's a list for you going back when we WERE monetarily ******.
Atkinson, Squire, Threadgold, Conway, Bratton, McGlone, Cubillo, Gum, Vassal, Johncock are just off the top of my head, all have stayed for a good amount of time, become better players/medalists/captains and clubmen, none of these have walked out, only retired.

Note sure if McGlone is a good example - was on $35k plus a car at South and advised South he left because they could not match Sturt's offer. Although his ex-team-mayes advised he has had enormous issues actually getting the promised amount paid to him at Sturt

Just a question on Hassan, was he out of contract or he did he walk on West and therefore the Bloods still had him under contract.

Ok, haven't heard that and you'd think if it was fact then he'd be off. Where as it's been 2 years now? ;)

I can only assume that no other club is willing to pay a recieving half-back flankers that has never had a contested posesion more money .... so you have him as long as you continue to make him one of your highest paid players ... enjoy

Left us 3/4 thru last year. Has undoubted ability but has attitude problems. Hoping you guys can sort him out because I always enjoy watching him play.
Go you Redbacks!

Valenti has signed with Pt Melbourne which is disappointing as I had an avatar ready to go.

sturt must be doing something right bunton.
If we can hold onto good players with payment issues, what are south doing given you supposedly pay players on time yet every year there is a player exodus.

Sturt should have heaps of dollars.

Hassan is dubious as is Giles. Hinge is a downhill skier. Hardly any one there worth big bucks......

Plus Coad would've been on a packet. None of those three blokes even combined go close to replacing Coad & Trengove.
The joy of being on the hill drinking beer cannot be understated

Cutterman, I don't believe you got Giles, Hinge and Hassan for the same price as Boyd. I base this purely on snippets from here and there and expectations of what these players market value would be. "For almost the same price" I doubt very much. My question wouldn't be whether Sturt can pay the transfer fees or not. I would expect Central could afford to pay a reasonable amount in transfer fees also. My point would be these three players aren't playing for the love of the game and Sturt must be managing their cap very well to fit them in. Pure speculation.
As for supporter's impressions as to Sturts finances, just look at some posts from your own (those that should know). "Rising Blues" for example thought the club was in finanacial trouble (check out their posts), so is not just those from other clubs.
Good luck to you though, improved competition, bring it on!

Sorry Bunton, you don't know. :?

FACT: The SFC pay their senior players on a very equitable (similar) contractual basis. That way there are no "he's getting more than me" issues. Hence, there is a senior group of players at the club on very similar (parity) remuneration with subtle contractual differences here and there. There are no "highest paid players" because you would have to group the entire senior player list into that group.

FACT: We are very happy to have Scooter at the club and his "recieving half-back flanker" attributes have seen him poll very well in the SFC B&F since arriving at Unley. Also, if you like, I'll post you one of his highlight DVD's featuring his numerous contested possessions over the last couple of seasons.

Just one more thing concerning payment ofour players. The deadline at SFC for all player remuneration is mid-November each year (as per their contracts) as it is for many other clubs. Some players request early payment for going away on holidays or other extenuating circumstances, so hence, are paid a little earlier than some other players. At the end of the day, all players are paid at SFC in accordance with their contractual obligations.

So there you have it Bunton. I would suggest that you concern yourself with the parity issues and otherwise at SAFC before commenting (speculating) on other club's player remuneration considerations.
There is only one team I love as much as the Double Blues, the Double Blues Reserves.......

What? Aren't our players paid in magic beans? Especially the less experienced players who got their beans a few months after the rest of the group.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Bunton, I never said that we got Hinge, Hassan and Giles for nearly the same transfer fee as Boyd. I said that we got Hassan and EITHER Giles or Hinge (take your pick) for nearly the same transfer fee as Boyd. Go back and read it.
And thanks Rhino for putting some facts forward.
