Somehow ended up staying with a family in Tiznit for four days, who kept us well fed the whole time. Surreal. Yours truly eating from the communal plate.

I'm rubbish at taking photo's but when I opened the blinds at about 8:45am this morning, just before sunrise, my whole world had turned a very surreal shade of blue so grabbed the camera from the cupboard and took a snap. I've been awake at all hours in the past due to shiftwork and I've seen everything go pink at sunrise but never blue.


For comparison this is what it's like now...

Yep...according to the Met Office sunrise for me was 8:55 as opposed to 8:02 for London...we really are that far north and sunset today is 3:27pm ... at least the days will start getting longer again after tomorrow

Btw it's now alot whiter outside...snowing heavily which will be cos the fates know I need to get into town tomorrow...****s

Yep I did a bit...it was one of those 'stopped in your tracks' moments when you just look and think 'oh wow'. Like I say I've seen everything go pink at sunrise or sunset and I'm used to opening the blinds and finding the whole world has vanished into a James Herbert style sea fog but I've never seen blue before.

It only lasted a couple of minutes but I wish I'd been down on the beach when it happened...with the snow and the lighthouse it would have been stunning.

Awwwwww thanks...so sweet of you smiffy but of course being so far north also means we get a lot more daylight in summer...only gets really dark for about 3 hours some nights

Not 3 hours every night in summer...just if there's a clear sky so the light hangs on for ages after the sun goes down and appears again quote a while before it rises.

Not so bad to sleep if you have those blackout blinds that don't let light through...which I do

These are the averages from the Met station about 20 minutes along the coast from me at the other RAF base.

I know our temps don't sound much to you but it's all relative and what you're acclimatized to...so a 20C day is nicely hot to me compared to today with a wind chill of -7C

Those two huts on the right, plus a couple of buses and cars, and a church, are the only signs of civilization.

The boat had to dock that far out, then get passengers to the island by lifeboats due to only having a jetty with no dock.
