Applying for jobs (and getting in before the applications close), and then being told the position has already been filled two days later, even though they would hardly had a chance to look at all the applications and arrange interviews.
Is it legal to fill a position before applications close, or can employers do what they want?

Happens in government where they are legally obliged to advertise roles externally even if they don't really need to.

Yeah, I'm sure the employers can do waht they want, it is just frustrating. I thought it would probably happen in the government with some of the policies they are required to adhere to. My couple were in the private sector - one was advertised Saturday, rang up for more info on the Tuesday, and was told it was already gone even though the due date was the next week. Well, that's stiff sh!t for them, because they missed out on the best prospective applicant (well, I have to believe that )

In a similar vein, I wonder how many houses are sold beforbehind the scenes, but the RE agents put up a for sale sign for a couple of days and then add a sold sticker to make it look like it was a quick sale and the market is hot.

I thought a 19yo student urinating on a war memorial was the ultimate in disrespect and was pleased that he got 250 hours of community service. But I'm completely disgusted that a 49yo has now been arrested for the same offence...considering his age this time I hope it's prison and a bloody good kicking...he might be surprised at just how many prison guards and even prisoners are ex-forces

This one by insurance groups - but Medicare Australia are doing the same sort of thing.
This example came from a medical discussion forum.
Quite often if you talk to the patient you find they thought they were signing a consent for the insurer to ask specific questions of their GP and had no idea it would be used to try to acquire their entire medical record. I once got a request from a law firm in which the patients alleged signature on the consent did not match the signature I had on record.

Received by a GP group:

Re: Request for Medical Information
Mr Patient Name
DOB: XX/XX/XXXX

Mr Patient Name has applied to AVIVA for Insurance services and has stated that Xxxxxxx Medical Centre has provided health services to them in the past. In order for AVIVA to process this insurance request, they have asked us to obtain the medical record for Mr Patient Name.

My response was to send (via fax not unencrypted e-mail) a 'standard' Insurance company invoice for $(profanity filter) plus GST, with the cover letter that says we don't routinely just give out notes, that we only only answer questions...

Having some oxygen thief or thieves attempt to knock off a set of Christmas lights from the front garden, guessing when they couldnt get the power pack to go with it they just decided to pinch what they could so they just ripped the wires out and left one light and the cord to power it. The crap thing is, is that I wasn't deliberately speeding because I know that stretch of road between the two towns is notoriously patrolled 24 hours a day, either by camera or car.

I unknowingly crept and paid the price - and I wasn't showing cleavage
