It's something that's been talked about around the traps over the last few years, mainly because some of the Mallee Clubs have been struggling for numbers, namely Karoonda, Peake and Murrayville, and the league would certainly be in danger of folding if a club folded.

I for one would support it happening before the league comes to that point. Some of their clubs are not that far away from the Riverland and would be competitive, whilst other clubs in their comp would have other options in terms of leagues to go to.
Don't be scared. Now is not the time!

WELL IM GONNA FRIKKIN YELL!

OK its rant time!
Some are obviously gonna love what ive gotta say, and other will hate it. Thats why opinions are like assholes.....everybody has one.

SANFL - Pahtooey! Dont get me started on them. DOLLARS is all they care about and all they ever will. - I know there are many, many dedicated-to-football people who work for the SANFL, but its not them its the system. (Why does the SANFL play with 21 players and the AFL 22? - Do different codes of Soccer/rugby play with less men in their teams? - Does SACA play the Redbacks with 10 players?) - Why do grass roots footy teams have to sell raffle tickets FOR the SANFL when they could be using that time and manhours to raise money for their own club. fees to clubs keep going up and up and up and more and more rules and regulations and "big stick weilding" just so Clubs can pay all these administrators to tie them up in red tape!

Independent League has always been to me a league of choice, not THE league of choice. But about having a choice.
Cant make training due to work? - RFL cant justify getting you a game, so Indy clubs benefit, otherwise, these guys wont (or cant) play at all.
New to the region or wanna take up playing footy again and you just wont cut it in the RFL teams, go INDYS
Live in one of these small towns and just wanna represent it? Go INDYS
Dont like going to Waikerie? Well you'll hate going to East Murray or Browns Well or Ramco - Go RFL!

Now all the INDY clubs have been working their butts off to survive over the years and some still struggle, others ebb and flow.
But it THEIR LEAGUE - NOT THE SANFLs

The SANFL knows how to run the IRFL as well as the AFL knows how to run grass roots footy.

I dont want to see a club fold because it has nowhere to play. I personally would want to strengthen the INDYs and think BSR would be great for the comp as Ramco were.
The RFL were talking of mergers with Mildura about a decade ago and players were not keen due to travel. Yet the draw would be set so that RFL teams would on play the Mildy teams once each throughout the season, splitting 6 games home and away meant only three trips to MIldura a season. But then there were a whole heap of other issues as well.

But if the INDYs were to get any bigger, then they should become TRULY independent and break away from the RFL, as i think the INDYS help prop up the RFL in more ways than one.

One last point i want to make is about Club delegates.
Who are they?
Do most players even know who is representing their clubs and what their motives are?

Getting people to give up their time for nothing is hard and finding delegates can be hard in itself.
But i know from experience that the 1 or 2 people in that room are voting for an ENTIRE clubs viewpoint, and too often its just really just that person/s viewpoint on what THEY think is best for the club.

Information is given to Clubs by the League and they send delegates to a meeting to represent them. But in a lot of cases in grass roots footy, the Club Secretary opens the mail and says out aloud "hey honey, we gotta go to some meeting and vote about something next Monday night" ............ The questions that should be asked to each player, committee member, sponsors, ect ect dont even get past the delegates themselves. - I've personally seen this happen on multiple occasions.

So in closing i'd like to add that, whatever the reasons, right or wrong, no league should be forced to do something they voted against. Have a re-vote, with some better info and more delegates, but dont wave any stick saying "YOU WILL DO IT!" "PERIOD!"

By the way SANFL, any player at any age group not getting a game is YOUR fault.
Can someone that has access do some number crunching for me?

How many Aussie Rules Football clubs are there registered in SA?
Times that by 3 (an average of how many teams/grades each Club has)

The answer will be how many players around SA are not getting a game because the SANFL plays with 21 players not 22.

And any club member/delegate or official that replies " Do you know how hard it is to find players these days, we have trouble filling 21 spots as it is!"...........Well you should stand down because your time is up if you cant get players to your club, and you must also ask yourselves, "WHY did they leave your club in the first place?"

Peace out, rant over.

So, which team might have voted against BSR coming in because they think their premiership window is open and that might be closed if the new and dominant Bulldogs come into the competition?

Hi guys
Just wondering if you can tell me how competitive you think BSR would be in the Indy’s? I know we will loose a couple of our top players from last year but I would hope we would keep the main group as well as some b graders who just won 4 flags in a row.

Is this the issue with us joining or is it more about travel?

i cant speak for any other clubs but as far as we are concerned we are all for BSR joining the indys but think its a bit rough that we dont play all teams twice. only extends the season by 2 weeks. thats the main reason we voted against.
