Sturt's Finances 09/10

Postby Wedgie » Sat Dec 12, 2009 1:05 am

Not having a go at anyone here (thought I'd put that straight up as that's the usual Modus operandi for a lot on here, to tell the truth I used to hate Sturt but will be forever in their debt for knocking the Bays off in this year's Prelim and have always loved the style of footy they play) but with Sturt's recent recruiting and holding onto players I'm genuinely curious if things have turned around at Unley Oval? I'm assuming they have and I think that's fantastic, just wondering if a Sturt member can give us an update as to where this has happened (Bazaar or Castle Plaza or other means) and some further info as I'm geniunely interested.
Please note I don't give a rats toss bag if Sturt or any other club are over the salary cap or operating beyond their means, I'm just wondering if we can count Sturt out as one of the club's in trouble financially and how they did it?
Cheers.

I did answer a similar question in another thread and the short answer is "yes".

The business plan the club put in place when they were advanced a payment from the SANFL is reaping the dividends now and the two venues are finally bringing in money to the club. These days you cant really spend money if you dont have it, it's not like any bank would give us a loan to cover these player transfers.

The current board are very confident about the future of the club and it's no wonder with the work these blokes have put in.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Very, very good manager has been put in place at our Unley Road establishment.

its great to hear that not just are we recruiting, but players are asking to come to us, that is great, but whats more heartening to hear is that the right people are in the right places off the field and that a strategic, carefully planned approach is being taken to ensure our future is bright...thanks for the updates barto and go the double blues and the SANFL!!! :D

Matthew Benson has been one of the greatest men to return to Unley and fill this role - He has to take a lot of credit for the club's current position - Well done Matty and Thank you.

Not just Matt Benson but we've got good people from the top down, Richard Allen is doing a sterling job. It's a massive turn around from not only recent times but remember 20 years ago, we were a complete rabble.

yeah fair play to sturt, sound like they got their house in order, we need all nine clubs running financially stable to keep this competition as great as it is so it's brilliant to see a club such as sturt turn their financial woes around.

Hardly, like most SANFL clubs I'm sure Coad, who has played all his underage footy with sturt, wouldn't have demanded a real lot anyway.

You have to read through some other posts on some other threads to get what I mean SD.

Er no, He was released from a rival SANFL club for the minimum zone transfer fee and went into the reserves sill able to play u/19.

Funny thing is the club that let him go for a pittance could do with the cash right about now
