Just reading the chat on here and this is not pointed out about mitch but are the amounts of dollars that are being offered to players justified and what are poeples expectations of the players being paid big dollars? this may have been discussed but just curious.

Yes, I have heard the same, apparently Fish and co are getting 1500 a game at Barker?!! I couldn't see Mt compass even thinking of paying half of that! If i were Fish I would not even think of work during winter!

Has the tide turned? The GSFL and some of the clubs within it are known for paying out someabove average coin to players, but it seems that recently some of the big names rumoured to be coming have ended up signing elsewhere in other leagues. And not for a couple of bucks more, in some cases $500 bucks more per game.

It's probably the points system taking effect across the state. Bigger bucks going to fewer players.

Sometimes you have to walk away. Its a bit like real estate, every now and then you run in to the heart buyer who is bordering on madeness and will do whatever it takes to get what he or she wants. In this case Kingston were that 'heart' buyer. I still like to picture myself as Trev's step ladder though!

In my time I would have played with some players on big $$$ but once you cross the white line in the heat of battle it doesnt mean a lot. Every club does it (some to a greater extent than others), but all clubs have a full contingent of junior teams and a large contingent of local players playing senior footy, so bolstering your player stocks both in numbers and quality in my opinion is ok. If your committee works hard to make money and chooses to spend it on players without neglecting the other areas of the club then so be it. As an example if Willunga paid every player in their team $1000 per game it would even be a concern? Their club runs smoothly and they have won 5 flags in a row. Can we talk about other stuff rather than money??

Our juniors dont miss out on activities and facilities because we pay players, you should get up early on a staurday morning every now and then GA and get involved yourself with junior footy. 800am at Goolwa Oval on April the 10th would be a good starting point. see how our juniors are run or come along to AAMI stadium with us. went there twice last year, or if Friday nights are better we take a bus regularly to the SANFL on Friday nights.

As for that list of players, after going through the 02,03,04 player payment books last Tuesday when cleaning the office out, you would be suprised at what these blokes were on. If some of the 09/10 country footy players saw what AFL premiership players were getting, they would be slighlty embarrassed I would have thought. If you are ever in Goolwa (or anyone else on the forum is) I would be happy to show you thses figures. Having said that we obviously didnt get the results but thats the trials and tribulations of the 'chase' that we all get involved in every winter.

And yes Yetti a good example that money will forever be a talking point, having said that I will still say that I really dont care what any indivdual is on and my point goes back the the first paragraph of this rant. As long as a club doesnt neglect other areas, good luck to them

I hear the money Trev is getting at Kingston wasn`t much more that Goolwa offered him..By him not signing with Goolwa they should have the coin to pick up a few decent players instead. Any names of new recruits you would like to tell us about LuvsFooty.

Sorry, LF! You were obviously replying to my post as I deleted it, and I deleted it 'cos on reflection I thought it was a little harsh.

If you guys are investing as much in your juniors as what you appeared to do on big names a few years back then you're on the right track.

I just think some clubs are little short sighted with their recruiting dollars. Unless your premiership window is open the focus should be long term and not just the coming season IMO.

In the Northern Argus today it was suggested that a Langhorne Creek footballer is set to sign with a Northern Areas club despite some interest from RivertonSMU FC and a possible connection with Zac Hier (ex WWT Eagle playing with Riverton this year). Anyone know anything?

ps If anyone ever hears of anyone heading to (or from) one of the Northern Areas or the Spencer Gulf league towns please pm me?

Hey Yoda
A brave pick not to have Willunga on top.

Micky's source tells him Willunga boys are training harder than ever (all Voluntarily) plus with a few new faces i'm sure the Demons will be looking for improvement, whether that means winning a flag or not time will tell.
