coad will be very hard to replace...wont be replaced by a victorian as we have done our major recruiting...trying to think who could cover him  ...will have to be done by commitee i reckon as no one player stands out enough...maybe hinge could help back there but i'd be looking to see which ressies player can stand up to be a regular 1st team player.

very depressing to know that he wont be out there.....maybe sturt can strike a deal with the GC to keep him here.... :?

Yeah its probably the in game versatility that will hurt the most, in the individual positions you could probably find a CHB that will be servicable and there is probably another tall forward who could play a role but to find a player who can be thrown in all those positions in the one game and still be effective will be impossible to find imho.

Only $5,000, I think.

A sigh of relief from the Bulldogs...

STAYING PUT: Post-season shoulder surgery may have hampered Scott Dutschke's draft chances.

TALK about an anticlimax.

After fearing it would be cleaned out in the AFL preseason and rookie drafts, Central District went untouched today.

Premiership stars Brayden O’Hara, Scott Dutschke, Trent Goodrem, Lee Spurr, Eddie Sansbury and Trent Goodrem were all passed over by AFL clubs, as was young ruckman Jack Hannath.

Bulldogs CEO Kris Grant said he was pleased from a club perspective.

``We’re obviously disappointed for the blokes who put their hand up but from a club perspective it’s great to get through unscathed,’’ he said.

``The closer we got to the day the more it seemed as though there wouldn’t be many taken because the boys weren’t getting any calls.

``Port Adelaide invited Dutschke to train with them but he couldn’t because of his shoulder operation.’’

The end result leaves Central in a prime position to continue its stranglehold on the SANFL.

Only national draftees Daniel Menzel (Geelong) and Ben Nason (Richmond) have been lost from this year’s squad.

``I think we would’ve seen Menzel play at least a handful of games and Nason certainly would’ve played a lot.

``We certainly feel for Jack Hannath, he’d be quite disappointed.

``We need to assure him that it’s not all over and that he just needs to knuckle down and go again.’’

Grant said the Dogs could now limit their recruiting to solely focussing on a replacement for ruckman Jon Giles, who wants to be traded to another club.

``We need to sit down and talk about everything but we’ll need a ruckman.

``We’ve spoken to a couple.’’

Glad to hear the club is looking for a ruckmen, In previous years we have recruited young ruckman for the future but for various reasons it hasn't panned out so hopefully this time we pick up a league ready ruckmen such as Mikeljohn or of the like.

Where does that leave Giles and Sturt now, with Kurtze not getting picked up in the draft Sturt are only one ruckmen away from Giles spitting the dummy, would Giles be the numero uno ahead of Kurtze?

I personally think the only SANFL club that Giles would be the number one ruckmen at is Port, so if they can somehow find some money he may end up there

its a non issue i reckon. time will tell but i think you are clutching at straws more than anything. i can some great competition for spots...jake bowen has shown he has it but it took him a while to find it, having the luxury of 3 rucks is going to be good.

I know South were keen to speak to Giles, they would be the main club in the SANFL that is clearly without a lead ruckman.

Depends on what happens with Mieklejohn at Port, but I would suggest Giles will be 2nd fiddle to Kurtze at Sturt and South will get Cloke in the mini draft.

Isn't that the whole reason Giles is leaving Central?

For those can access it, there is going to be an interview with Jonathon Giles in the Bunyip tomorrow...

Bunyip is a local Galwer and Barossa paper but is available at selective newsagents I think...

$5,000 - is that all! Hardly an incentive to develop juniors, no wonder clubs look at recruiting interstate players.

SANFL would be better than VFL, so not as silly as it sounds! (and I am a Vic)

Seriously, whilst it's great for Coad and Sturt, surely this should be rewarded by Sturt getting a (somewhat) comparable player in the mini-draft?

Not really. The whole point of Coad being drafted would be to act as a leader for the GC when they play in the VFL. Wants the point of them drafting players, only for them to stay in their own state?

Are you also suggesting that Sturt should be compensated outside of the mini-draft, with a comparable player? If so, then why is being drafted by Gold Coast any different to if he was drafted by Hawthorn?

OF COURSE no Central players were drafted, as if there was going to be any. No one good enough for AFL, too good for SANFL.
