STAYING PUT: Post-season shoulder surgery may have hampered Scott Dutschke's draft chances.TALK about an anticlimax.
After fearing it would be cleaned out in the AFL preseason and rookie drafts, Central District went untouched today.
Premiership stars Brayden O’Hara, Scott Dutschke,
Trent Goodrem, Lee Spurr, Eddie Sansbury
and Trent Goodrem were all passed over by AFL clubs, as was young ruckman Jack Hannath.
Bulldogs CEO Kris Grant said he was pleased from a club perspective.
``We’re obviously disappointed for the blokes who put their hand up but from a club perspective it’s great to get through unscathed,’’ he said.
``The closer we got to the day the more it seemed as though there wouldn’t be many taken because the boys weren’t getting any calls.
``Port Adelaide invited Dutschke to train with them but he couldn’t because of his shoulder operation.’’
The end result leaves Central in a prime position to continue its stranglehold on the SANFL.
Only national draftees Daniel Menzel (Geelong) and Ben Nason (Richmond) have been lost from this year’s squad.
``I think we would’ve seen Menzel play at least a handful of games and Nason certainly would’ve played a lot.
``We certainly feel for Jack Hannath, he’d be quite disappointed.
``We need to assure him that it’s not all over and that he just needs to knuckle down and go again.’’
Grant said the Dogs could now limit their recruiting to solely focussing on a replacement for ruckman Jon Giles, who wants to be traded to another club.
``We need to sit down and talk about everything but we’ll need a ruckman.
``We’ve spoken to a couple.’’
