Roy would not have taken him on if he didn't think he could add value.
And I think it would be fair to say Roy Laird has the league coaching role at Central for as long as he wants it. I think getting Platten on board is more for being able to pass on his experience and wisdom to some of the youngsters coming through. Of course as d4eva said, Laird would not have wanted him if he didn't see him adding value in some way.
The article in the 'Tiser had an emphasis on the fact Platts will be working with some of the underage players as well as someone like new recruit James Boyd. I know John didn't have a great tenure when coaching Freeling and I'd suggest he is doing it for the love of the club and to give something back to the place that gave him his start.
I'd be interested to see if Platts is an addition to the coaching panle or if he is replacing someone who is moving on. I hope it is not Gavin Chaplin or Neil McGoran, they have both been brilliant for the club and Roy in particular. I'd suggest Jeff Brown is coaching the reserves again and will still be there so it might be one of Nathan Steinberner or Luke McCabe, possibly Luke who has a farm at Hamley Bridge so may be putting more time into that ?
I still dont understand how neil McGowran has lasted so long in the coaching arena at centrals.
From my experiences playing under him, he had no idea! he must move the magnets well tho
