AFL vs Soccer World Cup

Hey guys, I've joined a facebook group called "The FIFA world cup is way more important than AFL"

I've been trolling the members a fair bit, anyone who wants to get on board and support the AFL side of things, I encourage to join and get into these guys.

Jabber just doing our bit to help the world realise it is following the wrong sport....

Just rememebr 500 years ago popular concensus was that the world was flat, in 500 years time people will be saying "what was that sport called soccer??"

One day the rest of the world will wake up to what real Football is, i.e. Australian Football.

I could easily say that Fear is Soccer Australias driving motivation as it knows that long term as a sport is is doomed unles it chases a futile dream to get the world cup down here when realistically it has no chance. Put your money on 2018 spain/portugal, 2022 USA.

Not one bit IMO. Soccer can do as it pleases while year after year the AFL will thrive.

I'm not sure what connection there is at all, more to the point why we are even bothering with a "serious" bid.

I think it's early days, and 'if' (and that's a BIG 'if') the bid is successful I'm sure a suitable compromise could be found to ensure AFL & NRL seasons continue.

With the world cup being played in South Africa next year and the work that they have had done on their stadiums over there, should the AFL consider moving each club over there for 4-8 weeks during the middle of the season? This would conform with FIFA ruling and no team would be at a significant travel disadvantage as all the teams would take up residence in South Africa.

I've listened to Kevin Sheedy speak a couple of times and he is of the opinion that South Africa is where the AFL needs to significantly expand over the next decade or so. Could this be a perfect opportunity to do so and grow our game internationally.

Thats acutally worth considering, there would be cheap flights out of the country cause everyone will be coming here, it would be huge for the telecasters, therefore the AFL could charge a huge $ for the rights, and a huge promotion for the sport in a country that may be an area that AFL could expand into.
