How frustrating..should be cementing home court advantage in the playoffs not looking to secure a spot

What Im seeing inthe NBL that cost a W

- BIGGEST FACTOR - Melbourne shot 40 free throws, Adelaide 20!!!
- Shooting 65% from the line (Gilchrist 4-11 the only Sixer to miss fromthe line)
- Shooting 9-30 from 3 point land
- Adelaide outshot Melbourne 41-39%, and held the Tiger three most prolific shooters (Worthington 29%, Hodge 35%, Corletto 22%)

Are the 36'ers the dumbest team going around.

They're crying out for a cool head when it gets to the business end.

Instead of that, they always take the dumbest option.

Not an easy team to watch.

Really stands out as to how much we are missing the experienced, wise head of Brett Maher when things get tight in the home stretch !! :(

Come out of retirement Mahesy, surely we would get more out of you than what we are currently getting from Cortez Groves ???

Dave Colbert, John Marshall High School coach dies unexpectedly
By Mark Puente, The Plain Dealer
December 04, 2009, 10:29PM

CLEVELAND, OHIO-- Dave Colbert's passion for basketball took him from the playgrounds of Cleveland to Australia and Israel, and finally back to coach at his alma mater, John Marshall High School.

The 47-year-old father died unexpectedly while driving on Superior Avenue Friday afternoon -- hours before high school basketball teams across the state would tip off this year's season. An autopsy will be conducted today, his mother said.

Colbert worked as a substitute teacher and had been an assistant coach at John Marshall for several years before being named the head coach about three years ago.

When his players were bought together after school and told of his death, they fell silent. Administrators expected the players to go home. A short time later, cheering could be heard on the basketball court.

"Coach would have wanted us to practice today," the players told an assistant principal.

Principal Rhonda Saegert said Colbert's death shocked the John Marshall family. She said he inspired excellence from his players on the court, but more importantly in the classroom.

Someone else will coach the team, but will not be able to replace Colbert, she added.

"Dave had a special quality to interact with kids," Saegert said. "The kids responded to him. His legacy will continue."

Leonard Jackson, director of athletics for Cleveland schools, agreed.

"He was an outstanding man and coach," he said. "He loved his kids. He was a role model."

After graduating from John Marshall, he attended Cleveland State University and the University of Dayton, where he graduated from inn 1986. He helped UD land bids in the NCAA Tournament and in the National Invitational Tournament.

He averaged 17.8 points and 8.0 rebounds per game and received the team's Most Valuable Player trophy each season, according to the school's Web site. The Boston Celtics drafted Colbert in 1986, but he ended up playing professionally overseas.

John Marshall will play its first game Tuesday against Maple Heights. Saegert said she will let the team decide how they want to honor Colbert.

Geraldine Flowers said her son picked up a basketball as a child and never put it down. He played on pro teams in Israel and Australia. She fought back tears when talking about him. He is survived by a 20-year-old son.

"He loved helping people," she said. "I was so proud of him. He always wanted to do the best he could."

I think a few people are being very harsh on Cortez Groves. Not sure what the fans expected of his return, but if it was the same freewheeling player that was at the Dragons and the like, that wasn't going to happen. His role with the Sixers is markedly different, because of the nature of the team and his defensive work is becoming more important. Note that last night, he was one of only two to register blocked shots and the only player to register a steal.

Having said that, he looks confused at his role at times and it's manifesting into his play and confidence. He looks reluctant to drive through the key for fearing of conceding the foul and yes, he is turning it over too often (6 last night)

Of more concern, should be:

- David Cooper's overall numbers diminishing alarmingly. He is losing any attacking flair and becoming too purely defensive to be a factor.

- This will get howled down but I'll cop it - Jacob Holmes is far, far too defensive and is simply not scoring enough to hurt the opposition. Does well off the defensive boards, but doesn't hurt enough.

- Brad Hill's growing lack of confidence for minutes played each week. He has the faith of the coaching staff and is not returning it (22 minutes for 5 points last night).

- Too much left to Adam Ballinger and John Gilchrist to bail us out offensively each time. Balls is simply being double teamed a lot of the time and the opposition is pushing Gilly into the backcourt more, to limit his offensive effectiveness. That he is still putting up 19 points is credit to how hard he is working, to be honest.
Can you guess where I'm calling from, the Las Vegas Hilton...
