That may be so but I'm sure they'd still want night games regardless

You may be sure but you're actually wrong. Which you would find out if you asked someone at the club.
I believe Round 23 may also be a night game if they're happy with the lighting.[/quote]

Sorry to burst your bubble but the club is seething about the draw -

From The Messenger
Dogs unhappy with Sunday-heavy draw

CENTRAL District CEO Kris Grant says he is ``bitterly disappointed’’ with the 2010 SANFL draw which sees the Bulldogs playing double the number of Sunday games next season.

Grant said his players ``despised’’ playing on Sundays because it interfered with the already limited amount of time they had for their social life.

``The players hate Sunday football with a passion,’’ Grant said.

``They make a fair amount of sacrifice, which is one of the reasons the SANFL competition is as good as it is, but playing Sunday means they lose a Saturday night which is really the only time they have to have a social life. They despise it.’’

The Dogs play four Sunday games in 2010 - a blockbuster ANZAC Day clash with Sturt at Elizabeth in Round Five and three away games.

``We’re a Saturday club and we’ve got four Sunday games next season,’’ Grant said.

``One is the ANZAC Day clash - obviously we’re prepared to play that, but we’re bitterly disappointed with the rest.’’

Central opens its season with a night game at home against Port Adelaide, which will be Chris Gowans’ 200th match if he plays.

It is the Dogs’ only night game for the season, down from three in 2009.

``It’s just the way the program goes,’’ Grant said.

``It’s pointless playing a West or South at night (because they draw lower crowds), and we’ve found once we get in to May onwards the weather starts becoming an issue.’’

Central finishes its season against its two main challengers from 2009, Sturt (Round 22) and Glenelg (Round 23).

MUST SEE MATCHES

Round One: Saturday, March 27, 6.30pm
Port Adelaide Magpies @ Hamra Homes Oval
Central legend Chris Gowans will play his 200th game as the Bulldogs unveil the premiership cup.
Round Five: Sunday, April 25, 3.10pm
Sturt @ Hamra Homes Oval
A re-match of last year’s Grand Finallists in the first ANZAC Day clash played away from AAMI Stadium or Adelaide Oval.
Round 14: Saturday, June 26, 2.10pm
Glenelg @ Hamra Homes Oval
The first of two trips the Tigers will make to Elizabeth in 2010.

Don't blame Kris Grant, Sunday footy is awful for the players, good on him for sticking up for them.

Norwood got 4 Sunday games too, (including 3 in a row) AND a night game against South which is on a Thursday.
I think we have a total of 7 games on a Saturday arvo, which must just about be unprecedented.

could be the magpies and have 7 games scheduled for sundays!

i believe in getting more night games, i think that is the one thing the wafl has over the sanfl, particularly early in the season i believe they play lots of friday night games, often 2 games on a friday night (which i see the Sanfl has adopted now)

That's why they've stuck to the formula of just playing the two finals each year before the GF.

Seriously, I think it's a fair call by Kris. All SANFL players give up quite a bit socially to play, which I know is their choice. It seems many players this year have sighted the committment required to play SANFL as a major reason for them either retiring or joining a "lesser" competition.

Round 4 Sunday @ Glenelg - Fair call cause Crows V Carlton on Saturday arvo
Round 6 Sunday @ Prospect - Fair call cause Showdown on Saturday arvo
Round 11 Sunday @ Norwood - Fair Call Crows play on Saturday arvo

Last 10 games of the season are all Saturdays, out of 20 games they have 3 Sunday games (exc Anzac day), hardly worth complaining about surely? Esp as the above games if clashes against the Crows would only draw half the crowd...

I think they should have moved the above games because there's SANFL games on those Saturdays. ;)

Point taken re Round 6.
Round 4,6 and 11 there's still SANFL games scheduled on the Saturday, no doubt for the ABC coverage. But agreed not a major issue. Although personally I don't care too much about missing a Crows game, I don't go to watch it "live", and have a VCR (not stolen). I guess the Round 11 game against Freo, i wouldn't care if the doggies went head to head with.

As a compromise, Centrals could play Fremantle in round 11 - Freo might at least kick more than one goal :D

Could be worse: could be five Sunday games.

Why so many Sunday games anyway?
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Is there a bigger idiot in SA footy than Darren "even bays fans used to hate me too but then we started winning the odd game" Chandler?

A man so incompetent he can't even implement a recruiting ban. Thanks Dazza. :D

Changing tack a little on the conversations being had.
How many of you who don't support either West or North will be attending the first game under lights at Richmond?
I know quite a few people who are so it should be quite a boost for West Adelaides coffers if the get the crowd I'm expecting.

Just realised that Sturt has only 2 home games out of the first 6 matches played and 1 home game out of our last 5
Also, when is the last time we played round 23 at home? I don't remember one for a while. Unless it was 06. I think I was drunk for that whole season as we were shithouse.
