Rookies training with Power & Crows

Postby SANFLnut » Mon Nov 30, 2009 11:08 am

A few guys from Westies have been invited to train with Port with an eye on a rookie spot.

Daniel Webb, Jono Beech and I think the 3rd one is Scott Blesing from the mighty bloods.

Any info on players from other clubs??

An article in the 'Tiser today on Matthew Panos from Norwood...

He has been invited to train with the Power after somewhat suprisingly being overlooked in the National Draft...

I think it is Tate Silverlock not Scott Blesing.

Alex Carey and Cameron Hitchcock are traing with the Power too. Watch for Hitchy, another "This way, that away goal, what his name? Craig McRae"

Josh Giddings has a two week stint with Essendon.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

That's a bit hard on the lad.
Poor kid must be despairing and desperate if he accepts that invitation...

From this lot I'd expect Carey, Panos, Jaensch, Silverlock and Webb to get rookie listed somewhere, not necessarily at Port.

Goldsworthy would be extremely lucky if he gets listed. Has all the skills and has beautiful disposal but lacks the pace needed for someone his height.

Someone I think who stands and excellent chance of being rookie-listed is Hill from the Eagles. Has height, pace and can take a grab. I think he attended state-screening this year.

Hill tested rather slow and did a poor beep test so I think screening did not help his cause.

Yep, you can be one but you can't be both.

Panos and Carey would pretty well be definates to get picked up by somone if not Port!
Matty Jaensh from Sturt would also be on the radar of more clubs than just Port.
He has pace, good skills, strong bodied and has had a full season of league footy under his belt.
He'd be better in a Crows guernsey ;)
The Gold Coast are more than likely after blokes who have had a couple of seasons of senior footy under their belt so I doubt they will be going for anyone under the age of twenty!
Lee Staple from the Eagles trained with the Gold Coast for a week,am i right in thinking he is only a fringe league player?

Interesting to note the Power have got a couple of NT Thunder / Tiwi Islander boys training with them for a possible spot on the rookie list.

PORT ADELAIDE
Jonathan Beech (West Adelaide)
Alex Carey (Glenelg)
Glenn Dawson (Port Adelaide)
Matthew Goldsworthy (Woodville-West Torrens)
Jack Hannath (Central District)
Ben Hansen (Sturt)
Thomas Harms (Sturt)
Cameron Hitchcock (Glenelg)
Matthew Jaensch (Sturt)
Terry Milera (Port Magpies)
Bradley Palipuaminni (NT Thunder/Tiwi Bombers)
Matthew Panos (Norwood)
Damien Roe (NT Thunder/Nightcliff)
Taite Silverlock (West Adelaide)
Jack Stephens (Sturt)
Mitchell Taylor (NT Thunder/Wanderers)
Dean Terlich (Norwood)
Derick Wanganeen (Port Magpies)
Daniel Webb (West Adelaide)

It's so exciting to watching these aboriginal lads from the NT play, especially the Tiwi boys. They are so flashy and quick and I really used to enjoy watching some of them run around in the NTFL when ABC2 was replaying other state leagues late at night.

If any of these boys do get rookie listed, obviously they will need to be aligned to an SANFL club so that would be exciting to see them running around in the SANFL strutting their stuff and showing us their magic, even if it is just only at reserves level.

If my memory serves me correct, I reckon the last Tiwi Islander that we had play in the SANFL in recent times would have been the Tigers' Shane Tippuamantamerri (sp?) who I think played at the Bay back in the late 90's, early 2000's ?

Pretty sure that Tippa then went on to play in a Premiership in the WAFL with South Fremantle possibly, then I reckon he ended up joined the Tiwi Bombers when Dean Rioli went back thereafter his AFL career came to an end with the Bombers.

How quickly we forget Austin Wonamirri. Pretty sure he was a Tiwi Islander. I know Sturt also had one but only played reserves... Rupert (not even going to try his last name)

Dean Cox couldn't even do a lap of Subi without struggling when he first started with the Eagles so anything is possible.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

slightly off topic but does anyone know how many rookies the Gold Coast can name?
Players win touches, Teams win matches, Clubs win Premierships.

By the look of it Damien Roe may have some connection to Daniel Motlop, look very much alike.
