Anyone know how the amount of kids picked up in the main draft from SA compares to other years?

Now the AFL draft proper has passed us by,which SANFL players do you think have a chance of getting a crack at AFL level via the rookie draft?
This will be where the SANFL will more than likely lose more than it did in the AFL draft.
With the Gold Coast having the first five picks in the rookie draft, and looking for mature age rookies you can say goodbye to Michael Coad,Scotty Dutshke, Braden Ohara and Angus Kurtze.
I reckon up to ten mature age players from the SANFL will be taken.

Hawthorn are in his ear as well. Take that as gospel.

Thanks to the new senior rookie list rule, don't be at all suprised to see him listed by the Hawks come the Rookie Draft...

I think Jimmy Miekeljohn is a talented player and is well and truly up to another chance at AFL level.
Decent ruckman are hard come by so Miekeljohn and Kurtze are pretty well odds on to find a home.
Would James Allan from the roosters have a chance? I rate him but does he have the attributes to make it the next level?
I predict at least ten players from the SANFL will be taken in the rookie draft. Here is my 1-10 in no particular order.
1. Alex Carey
2. Mathew Panos
3. Michael Coad
4. Angus Kurtze
5. Mathew Jaencsh
6. Dereck Wanganeen
7. Scott Dutshke
8. Eddie Sansbury
9. Daniel Webb
10.Brayden Ohara

Alex Carey and Daniel Webb are 2 Proud ex-Flagstaff Hill FC Players whom I rate really highly.
As much as I hate, despise and almost chunder at the thought, I have almost prepared myself to re-live Cornsey's worst nightmare, and am considering that maybe Alex and Webby getting to stay in SA and develop as Rookies whilst playing for Bays and Westies under Dropkick Williams is better than get rookie drafted over the border.
It was hard enough for me with Danny Meyer (but at least he hasn't played in a Showdown yet) but I still can't imagine actually going to a game and not barracking for these 3 guys.
I don't know how Cornsey does it!

Was just looking over Matt Burgin's predictions for Tuesdays rookie draft. As we know its not really a good indicator but worth looking over for interest sake.
http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/ ... fault.aspx

Being Bays focussed, I noticed Glenelg have four 18 year olds predicted for selection:
- Alex Carey already high profile, so no surprise there - No 17 to Adelaide ( I hope so)
- Daniel Scott-Collings - No 36 to St Kilda
- Craig Pitt - No 37 to Geelong
- Josh Giddings - No 41 to Port Adelaide

Didn't mention Daniel Webb or Taite Silverlock from WAFC in the 108 listed 'possibles' though which surprised me.

They aren't very reliable BUT that would be perfect outcome for Central with Jack Hannath going to Port, surprisingly Bradyen O'Hara was the only other dog in his 30 players to watch out for.

I hope for Alex Carey's sake that he gets over looked.

His future as a cricketer looks a hell of a lot brighter than as a footballer.

Very good against his own age group at football and very skillfull but really struggled to have an impact at reserves level and showed no real improvement during the year

Cricket wise he is getting better and better at district level and his age would suggest he would be in the box seat to take over from manou in 3 years time.

Whatever, Whatever you reckon.
Can't say I agree with the "no improvement" comment. He didn't have a huge impact early in the season, but held his spot without a problem in 2nd half of 09. If he doesn't get selected Tuesday I'm sure he will again focus on balancing footy & cricket committments.
ATM he has chosen footy as first option and has the luxury of still being able to play District A Grade cricket to boot. Time will tell as to which path opens up first and where his talent will lead him. Some people would be glad to be good at one sport, he's good at two. What a luxury! I just want him to succeed at WHATEVER options become available to him

No doubt the kid has more talent in in his left toe nail than I have in my whole body, all reports are he is a great kid. So the best of luck to him. I was more making the call that in my opinion he will have a better career as a cricketer.
