Third announcements:

Summer has begun, the New Year is just around the corner, and so is the BIG DAY OUT! We’re thrilled to let you in on the final artists who will be touring with the BIG DAY OUT in 2010 plus the local acts taking to the stage in Adelaide on Friday January 29th.

BIG DAY OUT 2010 is hosting the mother of all celebrations – FEAR FACTORY’s 21st birthday. Since forming in 1989, this Los Angeles quartet have consistently forged new territory, proving themselves masters of metal reinvention, and producing an industrial metal classic in 1995’s Demanufacture. After several years’ hiatus, FEAR FACTORY hit the comeback trail this summer with Mechanize, their first album in five years. The revamped FF line-up – guitarist Dino Cazares, singer Burton C. Bell, bassist Byron Stroud and drummer Gene Hoglan – is promising raw aggression and reality. Keep it real at BIG DAY OUT with the long-awaited return of FEAR FACTORY. (ALL SHOWS)

Before there was Kool Keith, Old Dirty Bastard or 2 Live Crew - before there was hip hop, for that matter - there was BLOWFLY, performing X-rated songs with a funky groove. Many people cite BLOWFLY as being the first rapper with his 1965 self-pressed "Rap Dirty" record, which was re-recorded after the smash success of Sugar Hill Gang's "Rapper's Delight." Sampled by many, including: The Jurassic 5, Ice Cube, Atmosphere, P Diddy, Beyonce and Wu Tang Clan, BLOWFLY's sounds are a staple of modern-day hip hop. (ALL SHOWS)

An innovator in the Tijuana electronic music and video scene, DJ CHUCUCHU pumps out infectious Latin rhythms while his visual accompaniment will transport you to a familia Cumbia fiesta. The recent wave of Cumbia music that has enveloped most of Latin America has a very active node across the border towns of northern Mexico. Tijuana’s electronic musicians have embraced this wave with gusto (ALL SHOWS)

Montreal DJ and producer POIRIER mixes fresh Caribbean sounds including dancehall and soca with electro to create a dance floor frenzy to rival the best Carnival celebrations around the world. Joined on stage by hype man MC ZULU, their sound is equal parts lilting calypso melodies, driving percussion and traditional chutney sounds from the West Indies. Welcome to the future of jump-and-wave riddims, with our guarantee that nuff towels will be hoisted in the air and twisted madly in appreciation. Equal parts grimey, sweat-inducing and fun-as-helll, POIRIER FEAT. MC ZULU will lift the steamy roof of the Lilyworld well into the hot nights of mayhem and lunacy (ALL SHOWS)

THE SCARE and BIG DAY OUT are of a like mind: party hard, but tour even harder. The livewire Queensland rockers – who’ve also put in the hard yards sleeping on couches and supporting big-name acts back in the mother country – made the nation stand up (or should that be take-a-step-back?) and listen with their second album Oozevoodoo. A visceral, cathartic blast of gritty, sleazy, groove-filled rock, it’s “edgy, clever, succinct and all above all else fun” (FasterLouder). Blessed with a frontman, Kiss Reid, who oozes as much sex appeal as he does voodoo, THE SCARE may well rock your pants off at BIG
DAY OUT 2010 (ALL AUSTRALIAN SHOWS)

Pack your bags, ’cos BIG DAY OUT is taking you to Goodtown, with WAGONS at the wheel. Led by charismatic showman Henry Wagons and described as a “local treasure”, Melbourne six-piece WAGONS offer an unlikely mix of grand rock, dark country, irresistible crooning and classic pop, all topped off with Henry’s engrossing storytelling. Their latest, fourth album The Rise and Fall of Goodtown has seen them nominated for best group and best album at the 2009 EG Awards, yet more proof that WAGONS’ Goodtown is the place to be. Leave your mundane life behind and jump aboard WAGONS as they wind their way to BIG DAY OUT 2010. (ALL AUSTRALIAN SHOWS)

TELEPROMPTER: A charismatic and danceable treat, TELEPROMPTER are a departure from traditional classifications. Merging Indie Rock attributes with an angular Post-Punk playing style, this indie quartet produce an enigmatic, no-holds-barred sound to the acclaim of critics and fans alike. Citing influences such as The Cure, At the Drive In, Gang of Four, and Bloc Party, Teleprompter have been honing their live performance skills and have now gained further recognition by snaring a coveted national touring spot on the BIG DAY OUT as the winner of the uncharTED competition (ALL AUSTRALIAN SHOWS)

PLUS LOCAL ADDITIONS IN ADELAIDE:

FRIDAY JANUARY 29th ADELAIDE SHOWGROUND SOLD OUT!!
Rose Tce Wayville, Adelaide. Gates Open 11am
Local additions: Femme Fatales, Loot & Plunder, The Swiss, Stubanga, Poetikool Justice, DJ Japeye, Se Bon Ki Ra, The Thieves, Coerce, 20TH Century Graduates plus triple j unearthed winner Hawks of Alba

THE 100th BIG DAY OUT
Jan 25th 1992..................................................................................................Jan 23rd 2010

Who would have thought this day would every happen?

On Saturday Jan 23 2010, the tireless Big Day Out team, an army of workers and a 747 full of musical gods, goddesses and misfits from around the world will deliver the 100th Big Day Out A milestone rarely achieved by any festival in the world.

Over 17 years the BDO has grown from its initial chaotic plan of uniting the shambolic independent music scene for a day to become the largest travelling festival in the world. This year we have over 700 people on the road. In 1993 it was less than 70. And for the first show in 1992 only a handful of people made up the BDO team.

It was the right event at the right time. It was and still is delivered to you by passionate music fans and we work hard to keep the event true to its’ original vision.

In 1992 it was described on our first council permit as a Youth, Music and lifestyle event. It still is. It is also known as ‘the big day off’ by international artists ‘controlled kaos’ by the crew and even ‘the notorious BDO’ by the media.

Created in a time before Australia had music festivals, when independent music was exactly that and summer gigs were indoors. For anyone under 30 it would be hard to even imagine the idea that there were no modern festivals, let alone summer festival lift outs or guides in the street press or on the internet.

The Big Day Out existed before the internet ran our world. It began when Grunge music exploded, has seen Djs became superstars, Techno and Rap go mainstream and Sports Metal and Emo come and go.

Most importantly it has and will continue to deliver the ultimate platform for Australian and NZ artists to play to massive crowds alongside some of the most important acts in the world to the best audience in the world.

Only in Australia do fans ‘go off’ and that energy is the fuel that drives the show and inspires the bands to deliver incredible performances. With over 3 million people through the gates we have had plenty of euphoric highs and heart breaking lows. From victory to tragedy, one year or even one show is never the same as the next.

>From Soundgarden to Neil Young; Metallica to Bjork; Chemical Brothers to Nirvana, Nick Cave to Nine Inch Nails. The list is overwhelming. We have seen Australian acts grow from humble beginnings to stadium fillers like Powderfinger and we believe that our support of great artists both local and international is best served by supporting them over their whole career.

We believe these shows will be wonderful events, uplifting, spectacular and above all fun. And in keeping with the Big Day Out 'bigger the better' philosophy we have prepared a Sound, Flame and Fireworks spectacular like no other to close both Sydney shows.

None of this could have been possible without the support of real music fans, from the ones that work on the shows to the fans that buy the tickets.

On behalf of the whole team, thank you for your support, we hope you will continue to support us in years to come so we can deliver to you the best day possible.

Ken West, Vivian Lees and the team

By the looks of it, if you can get anything under $220 you have done well, i don't know what the cost price of them is but i think its around $125, so its close to $100 mark up.

You've got to admit that's pretty good. Hell I reckon even I'd go to the BDO if someone paid me $220.
