You'd be suprised how much the Gowans' twins are actually on, nowhere near as much as many would think...

I don't think it is odd that he only signed a 1 year deal, it's not like he is a retiring AFL star that is chasing long term security and big coin. He is just wanting to play footy in a successful environment.

He was quoted as saying in the article that he would love to play the rest of his career at the Dogs so I would suggest if he has a good year in 2010, he may be able to secure a longer term deal after.

Not many bulldogs on deals longer than one year. Keeps 'em honest.

Odd that a Glenelg supporter would think a one year deal is odd.

Very happy with that. Hypothetically if at least three other clubs were in the mix, with reasonable offers on the table, to accept only a one year deal is a positive. To mind it indicates he's prepared to trade off security to prove his value.
I imagine if he's had medical issues, Central would have wanted the one year deal. He must be pretty keen to play for the club.

I like the 1 year contract for a new player. It gives both parties the chance to get to know each other and then sit down and negotiate something more long term if evrything works out.

Better than a month by month arrangement like Glenelg and South coaching contracts

I thought Centrals had a policy of only signing players to 1 year deals, and the money they got was tied into their performances as judged by the B&F results so not surprised at all he signed a 1 year deal. I am rather surprised they announced it though. Normally you don't know who the dogs have signed up unless they're recognised at training or the usual January/February messenger article.

Anyway, it's a good signing. I'm happier we got Boyd instead of Hassan. Could be a terrific 10 year player for us and fills the gap left by Slade especially with O'Sullivan out for a while and a few guys getting on a bit around the midfield. I so wonder whether this move by Boyd isn't aimed at winning a flag primarily but rather a chance to put in some good performances by a good team in finals to try to get a crack at the AFL.

How do you see it as an expirement Dutchy, he has signed with Central that's all, he isn't going to play in the ruck or anything !!

I think the poster who suggested Central don't make announcements prior to Christmas on recuits was talking in general, obviosuly the club saw fit to announce him now.

Well if anyone needs to "sort him out", surely Roy Laird would be one of the best blokes in the business to do so...

Like you said though, time will tell...

That is a general observation many people, including myself to an extent, have made about James' game style...

That's not to say he isn't capable of getting the hard ball, perhaps he will have more confidence to put his head over the footy knowing his new team mates will protect him more than what he is used to.
