Sounds like you are all sick of the"Sponge" story but could someone enlighten me as to what it is all about. I reckon I have heard plenty of President bagging but dont know the story out at Barossa Districts.-Sorry to dredge it up when evry1 seems to have had enough of it. I live in Pirie and this smells very similar to the way Central Augusta recently treated one of their past champions in Port Augusta!(SGL footy.)

Basically story goes like this as I see it. Sponge a nice guy, not the best football but good club person and has been at the club through most of its bad times and was an assistant coach during the resurgance a few years ago took over the job after back to back premierships. Took the A grade to a grand final in his first year with a team that had 5-6 changes from the year before. Lost to a team that was close to unbeatable that year and was undefeated. last season club lost 8 players from grand final side and at the start of the year during recruiting a descision was made between the club and sponge to blood some up and coming juniors rather than recruit heavily and hence have a year or 2 rebuilding for the betterment of the club (not sponge's coaching record) Just after half way through the season an ex AFL player aka R James approches the club and expresses his desire to coach in our league. He had a contract on a house between barossa, gawler and tanunda. The descission was made that R james was appointed coach for up and coming season based on the following reasons.

1) his experience
2) potential to recruit players
3) change from existing coaching staff which had been implementing the same style for the last 5 years.
4) with his profile ability to increase sponsorship

Hence sponge resigns effective mid season and the club deteriorates from then on to end of season. Clearly hard done by but to some degree for the better of the club.

sorry for long winded story but hope this is clearer for you.

and plugger think even if occa was in charge and was in his 5 year and at the same ladder position think he would of been put out to pasture 2.

Johncock, Chambers and a ruckman from sturt as well i think, all good mates with childs, but think johncock will be no points. also Havelberg is thinking about returning and i hear Brooks is returning from alice springs, should be a fair spine IMO. Training starts wednesday nite, should be a full house with the 41 forecast

I hear the same thing ever year about this Brooks joker returning.
I'll put my house on it he won't be at the Donnybrooks.
The Donny's will have to fight against everyother club in country SA for Johncock, he had more clubs in his bag than Tiger Woods at the beginning of 2009.

Daysof, think you may find johncock loves mallee park a bit more than your donnies! My money is he will be still at sturt next year, wants an SANFL flag in his bag! My only advice to you daisy is do a few laps yourself thru the preseason, we both know you need it.
May even be able to add to your 1 A grade game career with your line up next year. ;)

Strong word is that Ben Kinnear will be returning from victoria, should be a good side with Clive Waterhouse and Chris Ladhams already signed up.

Razzman, JAMES will be awesome for the club....however I cant see how a club, in consultation with their previous A Grade Coach put recruiting on the back burner to develop their kids coming through....good idea and something other clubs should take notice in as recruits will only get you so far!!
However then JAMES comes into the equation and the goal posts are shifted...I feel sorry for Sponge....if a club and Coach make a decision to re-build for 2 odd years then they need to stick to it, no matter how hard it gets....

Can really see Johncock returning. And your right Willaston would be the first club Chambers would go too after winning the Ken Farmer medal.

Thats a huge blow to GC premiership chances , Vivian, Wozniak, Taylor, Jenner all confirmed outs so far.

GC would only have 2 points left with the signing of Branding former CDFC reserves = 4 points not leaving much in the recruitment tank. Would be hoping luke harder doesn't last down at Ports i reckon.

Big question will be will Wakka be given the time to rebuild if he can't find replacements?

Taylor has left and thats the reason Wakka has decided to put the boots back on for 2010.
