That's more the guernsey design, I'd have thought.
That ... and the caps, ties, pens, t-shirts, polo shirts, bomber jackets, scarves, flags, rulers, bandanas, wind breakers, stubbie holders, bottle openers, baby jump suits
So the clubs are out there trying to manipulate the minds and wallets of the punters just like Telstra etc.
It's time we all walked away, or at least refused to buy the stuff...

Yeah, why would you want to buy anything that helps your club?

They are showing signs of becoming primarily business franchises masquerading as clubs.
If they ask you to support your club in a straight forward and honest way, fine, you get to decide freely to support them or not.
When they show their disrespect for you, by attempting to manipulate and con you, rather than be open and honest, it is time to consider whether to walk away.

So I take it you dont follow Norwood anymore after they attemped to manipulate and con you by changing their logo and merchandise? Colours and logo make up a large part of kids minds as to whether they follow a team, and with the GC coming in soon, a new logo could get a lot of the youngsters who would have gone to them over to the brisbane lions

My comments were made accepting somebody else's premise that the purpose of the changes was to sell more gear/clothing.
They were an "if that, this follows" response, and I really don't know whether the original premise was correct, so my comments may not apply.
I tend not to wear very obviously branded clothing myself, but I might wear club gear to matches if I went regularly.

I think selling more clothing is a large part of it, as well as making sure the brand appears fresh. I have doubts as to whether the brand appearing fresh and interesting is as important as marketers would like us to believe.

It's disappointing that the old Fitzroy lion has been dispensed with. The Fitzroy influence seems to be being gradually eroded which is a real shame.

Although don't the AFL get a fair percentage of official merchandise?

Dunno Barto. But the club must get something and that's the point. Still, no one is twisting your arm behind your back forcing you to buy anything. It seems that Fitzroy aren't all that happy that Brisbane has dispensed with the traditional Lion emblem. I'm waiting for Royloin to make an appearance here to see what he thinks about it.

The maroon version is OK but the light red and gold lion look a bit wishy washy together.
I'd have gone for just the lion's head, and made it look a bit more fierce.

I'm not sure why they couldn't have kept the Fitzroy lion logo, but just cleaned it up and did the "web 2.0" makeover to give it a more modern appearance while still retaining the history. Perhaps people would have been more amenable to that.

As it is, I was under the impression they were supposed to keep the Fitzroy lion as part of the "merger" contract.

SAFooty's resident Fitzroy expert RoyLion is on BigFooty explaining this is in detail. Suffice to say, you are right. The merger agreement says the "Fitzroy Lion" must the logo used by the Brisbane Lions. There's debate about whether this means the 1965-1996 logo in exact reproduction or whether it is allowed to evolve. The agreement just says "the Fitzroy Lion logo" apparently.

RoyLion said there could be a supreme court challenge by Fitzroy FC (which still exists as it was and plays in a lower league) however the FFC website says they want to voice their concerns without resorting to court action.

I hope I have got the right story here.

I don't know why Fitzroy supporters (are there any left?) are upset about
a jumper change. Fitzroy changed their jumper consistantly.

Click on 'Club by Club jumpers' then 'Fitzroy home jumpers' and you'll see what I mean.
