This topic will come up every year and I think 40° is too high. 38° IMO is what the cut off should be.

FFS, if your going to toss a coin to win a T20 match then the competition cant be taken too seriously.

Amateur Footy wrote:Firstly Bloods I'll assume you were playing Section 1 cricket on that 45.4C day.

That is a very soft statement because I remember that day and it just happend that you were playing the Ramblers at WYC. It also happened to be that you blokes were sitting in the shade watching while your batsmen demolished a "thirsty" Ramblers attack. We'd made 210 the prior week and you blokes knocked them over not much after tea I reckon. I recall "running" in from the southern end and attempting to bowl into a strong northerly.

I don't reckon that day was too hard on you!

That day was the reason for the original 42C heat rule (which was still a joke mind you). 40C I'm comfortable with - particularly in section 1 (lower grades I'd be in favour of a 38C rule).

You assumed wrong AF. I played against south pk in section 3 at their oval which didn't have a blade of grass on it. We fielded most of the day, it wasn't fun.

I don't think suggesting a lower heat policy is "soft" I think it comes from those who realise cricket isn't the most important thing in life, how times change I know :). I think at our level of cricket we need to take a responsible approach to our playing conditions and consider the wide ranges of physical condition that our players have.

Amateur Footy wrote:By the way Bloods, the 'soft' part of you statement was not so much the brief mention of the 45C day, but just wanting to drop the heat rule temperature. RB you are included. I may be persuaded into 38C after a long time, but no lower. think 40C is ok. Atleast we have a heat rule now anyway - means we get a couple of days off most summers to do more important things...

Perhaps have a read of my post again. I'm saying it should be lowered primarily due to the fairness and equity of 2 teams playing in "reasonable" conditions.

I wouldn't consider myself soft (well, when it comes to the heat anyway!)... I bowled 20+ overs against Morphy Park on their godforsaken dust-bowl oval a few years back in your one-and-only game as captain when it hit 42. I just want a level playing field. Of course, if that means a safer environment for *everyone*, all the better.

As the President of the Association has said a number of times, the Assocation's committee only enforce the rules and regulations that the clubs vote in. If we as a collective group vote in stupid rules like we have in the past, we only have ourselves to blame.

38+ degrees from sections 2-6 should be cancelled as most clubs have older blokes and younger kids playing those grades

40+ for section 1 should be up to both captains to decide, if the best 11 at your club cant replace a few cans on a friday night for a couple of waters then im sure there are guys in your b grade that would be more than happy to play.

people are just getting softer...

JB, so section 7 just play in all temperatures??? ;)

For mine, i think 40 is alrite as is, however as this weekend is going to be, it is forecast for 39 after what 7 days in a row above 36??

I think common sense should come in, and the association step in and call this weekend off.

For mine, playing in 40 is not so bad if its not in a heat wave, but playing in 39 like we will this week after our heatwave, will be worse for players health....

But Bloods highly critical view on the heat policy has not come as he realises what is important in life, it has come as his fitness has dropped dramatically

If i win the toss this week, we are bowling!!! Just to make you suffer there Bloods!!

ck round 11 you are playing keswick... imagine if wyc are 5th and keswick are 4th and the winner gets a spot in the final and its the 2nd week and wyc has made 350 and its 40 degrees...

im sure you blokes would love to have your end of season drinks on that note wouldnt you?

on the other hand say if sharks and plympton dont have a chance and its 40 degrees week 2 of round 11 the captains would obviously decide there is no point... common sence

Well atleast il get to watch some finals cricket for a change JB!!!

If thats the case JB, rules are rules! If we are 5th and with that score, we should have made the most of our chances earlier in the year and not put ourselves in that position!

Yeah we would be pissed off but shit happens!!!

EDIT: we would not be in a position to claim after a sunday got heated out, and we were chasing 280 odd against the Sharks. It will happen to everyone at some point!

A real lack of thought there JB! Just because people are playing section 1 doesn't mean they are in better physical condition than those playing section 2-7.

Then we only have ourselves to blame JB.

That is just bad luck and we would be worrying about the games we dropped during the year not the ones we didn't play because of the weather.

The rule is for player and umpire safety. Heat doesn't discriminate between players skill level. You should also consider the umpires, the conditions are worse for them having to stand on the concrete all day. Not all grounds have the same facilities either, some teams will be struggling for a little shade while others are kicking back in air conditioned clubrooms.

One day you too will be a wise man not a silly young boy.

Ever heard that old bull and young bull story JB? If not you should get someone to tell it to you.

What a stupid comment. 2 years ago, we had a player from our club, his brother died whilst playing cricket in 38 degree heat. He was well hydrated and everything!

The facts are, we are only playing a mickey mouse comp anyways (not state cricket or "A" grade district). Player and umpires safety comes first!
