I love grapes. With grapes, you always get another chance. You know, if you have a crappy apple or a peach, you’re stuck with that crappy piece of fruit. If you have a crappy grape, no problem-just move on to the next. ‘Grapes: The Fruit of Hope.

Non GG people talked this crap up last year and we finished 6th. Nothing wrong with having a discussion about where your club is at...

GOLDEN Grove Football Club aims to make Amateur League Division 1 within five years.

And the club thinks it’s found the man to get them there.

The Kookaburras have lured former Tea Tree Gully coach Mark Weaver to Harpers Field on a two-year, extendable deal.

Weaver took the Gullies to the Division 1 Preliminary Final this year, ending his reign at Pertaringa Oval in a heartbreaking seven point loss to Henley.

Kookaburras president Ian Graham, who phoned Weaver as soon as Gullies were knocked out of the finals, says the club had sought a coach with a proven record of developing young players.

No mention of us being the 'team to beat', simply a focus on being as good as we can and pushing as high as we can, probably the same attitude as every other club in the Amateur League. No harm in having a positive attitude I wouldn't have thought.

Certainly nothing wrong with having a goal.

When Macca was appointed at PNU they had a 5 year plan to be in div 1.

and bingo.

sorry, didn't want that original post to be misconstrued...

I think it was a great article and I think that GG have the infrastructure and plans in place to achieve their goal or at least give it a bloody good nudge over the next 5 years. Having Weaves at the helm will help you go a long way in that and I'm looking forward to watching him have some great success with a young list over the next few years.

By having an aim of achieving div 1 over the next 5 years would mean at least making 3 Grand Finals over the next 5 years, which would in essence make you one of, if not the, 'teams to beat' over the next 5 years. Nothing wrong with that at all and I reckon you guys will be. That's where the semi tongue-in-cheek original comment came from.

As FC said, PNU have approached the same few seasons with a similar mentality after getting a strong coach and look at them now!

How good would it be for the North Eastern suburbs (and the clubs' bottom lines) to have 5 or so in Divvy 1 in fove or six years time!

Anyway, just wanted to make sure that my original post was taken in context!

Cheers,

BD

gotta agree with bigdaddy here..to get to div 1 in 5 you have to play in a GF in div 4 this year at the least so perhaps you would need to be the team to beat this year..but ..i also think you guys can possibly make it in 5-8 so dont shoot me ;)

And DV will have me to listen to !!!!!!!!!

No probs Big Daddy, wasn't biting back, just didn't want the preconception that we are rattling our own bags. Plenty did that at the start of 2009 and we didn't deserve it nor did we perform like it. Don't get us wrong, we want to be the team to beat, but we don't want to go out with a cocky, arrogant attitude because that's the first step in a downfall. And big noting yourselves on this forum won't achieve anything. We want to be positive, have a red hot preseason and earn our respect from our performances on the park.

I think the worst thing we can do is look too far ahead... Zed is right, it may not be in 5 years but we will try as hard as we can to get there....

Sauce is good. Very goody. Hence the reason i didnt come out throwing around names and making an arse of myself. Lets see what unfolds in the coming weeks hey.

Hopes not pinned on any recruiting. List is solid. Needs some tweaks.

The sauce I use is usually Tomato....I guess if the list was solid, you would have made finals last year??? Not having a go, just want facts stated on the forum and not mere rumour!! I hear you've already missed out on the new Team Manager's son (he was definately named on this potential 'list of TTG players)....I believe he has re-signed at TTG, thats one you can cross off and that is also from a very good source!!

You're sounding nervous and defensive Pacman ?

Missing finals by 0.2% in your first year in a higher division with a few key players missing is a 'solid' year in my books. Not what we wanted to achieve obviously but still pretty solid and still a big step in our development.

You want facts stated on the forum ??? =)) =)) Good luck with that hey....

You 'believe' he has re-signed ??? Is that fact ?? So his appearance at the club last night was just to have a beer with his dad and his former coach ??

Where is this list of players we are chasing??? I havnt seen it? I never posted it. I have only been informed that we are talking with a few TTG guys. Dont know who and how likley the scenario is that they would come across. I dont no how it could have been more 'factual', given my limits to information.

There was one lad back at the club last night who i believe is a potential recruit. Dont know the story behind it is. I wasnt there the whole time. Im not sure if this is the lad in question. You want facts? You 'believe' he has resigned for TTG??? Do you know for sure?? Not having a go, just want facts stated on the forum and not mere rumour!!

Regarding the list, finals etc....div 4 last year was tight. We finished 6th. Missed finals. We win one more game we would have finished third by percentage. Is Hawthorns list solid??? They should have made finals??? Im not looking for excuses but our season was interrupted by many things. Its not an excuse for missing finals, they are elements that contributed to our yo-yo performances.

Im assuming your a TTG person. Why not display it proudly on your profile?
