Shift the Puffs to Adelaide Oval, scrap the Est: 1870 nonsense and sever all ties with the Port name that has seen their supporter base steadily haemorrhage and call themselves the Adelaide Power or something similar. Both moves could feasibly > increase members & coin

This idea appeals to me. The second AFL team associated with Port will always struggle. Make it totally independant of Port and it will flourish. Maybe the two Adelaide AFL teams could be based on some sort of geographical lines such as north v south or east v west. Scrap footy park and have them both play at a revamped Adelaide Oval with 50-55,000 capacity.

Yeah I heard that and agreed it has some merit, give the Magpies back their oval and heritage and have "Adelaide Power" playing out of Adelaide Oval with their admin there as well.....could work very very well, with a team playing at Adelaide Oval they are likely to get more support from the neutrals that will wonder down there cause of the handy location

Right, so put your hand up as a neutral who would follow the "Adelaide Power" knowing full well it is Port Adelaide renamed?

Yeah,right...

probably not but I would go to their games if at the Oval and they are more likely to get the next generation supporting them with no reference to Port, doing it all at the same time when they move to the AO would be the go, done correctly they could easily pick up neutrals who go for a look as permanent members/followers

They'd need to lose the Port name, the black and teal, and the coach, before I'd go to a match, let alone consider joining, but lesser changes may work with coming generations if they separated themselves from the link with Port Adelaide and Alberton. However, they may lose some of their older, former Magpie, supporters in the process, and I'm not sure they'd be game to risk that.

I think I quite possibly would. I actually semi-supported the Power in the early days (mainly as an alternative to the Camrys), until they started cranking up the 1870 / creed / true PAFC stuff that turned off so many other supporters.

Isn't that like being a bit pregnant?

I actually have more time for the Power than the Crows, at least they're a club in the traditional sense, but all the creed/ Fos Williams/ four million flags crap gets massively on my t*ts. As soon as Williams goes, latest betting about round ten this year, they'll suddenly become a whole lot more appealing.

They'll be up to parity with the ebola virus on the likeable scale at that stage. :D

And what are you going to do with the 30000 or so current PAP members? Remove the Port reference and what do they have left? They'll walk away from footy in the state and 90% won't rock up to SANFL games instead. What all their junior members and the kids already on board?

Go the Adelaide Power ... everyone's "second" AFL team. Hey, in 25 years they'll get this "next generation" through so no dramas there. I am sure the AFL will be patient with them.

Why don't you put your idea as a poll on PowerfromPort.com and see how good an idea they think it is :o

After all the posts you made in support of the NMFC when everyone was saying they should relocate (and how important it was that the club retain it's identity) I am surprised at how casually you dismiss the Power's supporters.

And, as I said before, the existing PAP members will be fully supportive too. They don't really like the Port Adelaide link anyway. It's not the reason they buy memberships

Seriously now ... the only part of it that has legs IMO is playing games at the Adelaide Oval

not that ''adelaide power'' will happen, but doesn't one of the american professional leagues have two 'new york' teams ?

Bayman

Yes there's 2 New York's in the NFL. They came from 2 separate national leagues that merged to form the NFL 40 years ago. Jets from the old American Football League and the Giants from the older National Football league.

Don't know much about how the 2 supporter bases interact with each other or which team is more popular though

This was posted elsewhere (speaking of the BF Port Power board):

Was down at Prospect Oval today and had a look at the SANFL Fixture Draft and the Roosters have no byes and dont play Port Magpies.

Someone shit stirring or something more in this?

I have abfriend who is a big New York Yankees fan. Different sport to what you are talking about, but he told me a story about how he watched a New York Mets game, living in the same city and all it is easy to go see the other team. He said there were a couple of supporters of the other side there I forget who, but lets say Kansas City just for the hell of it. These two Kansas City fans were getting the hell abused out of them because their team was up, and the abuse progressed to the objects getting thrown, and hitting with deadly accuracy stage. My friend called out to the two out of towners and casually advised them to split, because he knows what the Mets crowd is like and there'd be fists getting thrown soon. He told them that he followed the Yankees so to him the result didn't matter so much, but he just didn't care to see people getting beat up if he could help it.
The two fans took his advice.
He told me the story as an example of the levels of rivalry the baseball fans engage in the U.S. He reckons he'd witnessed a few brawls between Mets and Yankees fans, but usually the numbers of either side keep things in check. I think he was intrigued by the suddeness of the free-for-all that developed against the two Kansas City fans on that particular day because there was no else there to back them up, but he wanted me to understand that regardless, of who's playing the fans are pretty intense.
He said that Grid Iron fans were worse.
But I am sure Jimmy would have plenty more experience.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail
