2002 = China/Korea = almost the same time zone as us = argument defeated

If South Africa can get it why cant we? :?

China/Korea has the same population as Australia = no, therefore an argument wasn't presented, let alone defeated. It is BECAUSE South Africa got it that we won't.

Point 1 - I was pointing out why they would bother hosting an event in a poor TV schedule country. I think that a nation with a smaller population combined with a bad TV timeslot will be a significant hurdle for our bid to overcome.

Point 2 - England have not hosted the world cup for over 40 years. You have to go back decades to find a South American host. The world cup was hosted in the US in 1994, Asia in 2002 and now South Africa in 2010. I reckkon that FIFA has gone through an experimental host stage but will become more conservative in the next couple of decades when it comes to deciding the host. I think that the tendency to share the event around a fair bit in the last couple of decades will be a significant hurdle for our bid to overcome.

It's just not worth the cash IMO.

How many Stadiums do we currently have that would meet FIFA standards?

MCG,Homebush,SCG,T/Dome? Then the 'Gabba,WACA,Footy Park etc dont make it I think.

So 4 or so up to standard what sort of figure ($$$) do we need just to get stadium up to speed?
PAFC. Forever.

LOOK OUT, WE'RE COMING!

Im a fan of both codes and would absolutely love to see the World Cup held here in Oz ... I also believe that soccer is going to be very big in this country one day, whether that's 10, 50 or 100 years I don't know, but I reckon it will grow to compete with the country's premier code(s) (and who knows perhaps even surpass).

All that said, I don't think we're realistically in a position to even think about hosting it for a long time yet, I'd guess the FFA should be contemplating it in 10-20 years (meaning actually hosting it would be 20-35 years away)

Dont think population would be an issue, every game would be a sell out.

Brazil are hosting 2014 so there is Sth America out of the way....England or Europe in 2018 and Australia in 2022 is my tip

I understand that Soccer isn't the Number #1 sport in this Australia, and is probably behind Aussie Rules, League and Union. But is it ahead of Synchronised Swimming? Or Trap Shooting? Or Fencing? I would say so, yet we paid a hell of a lot of money to get these sports to Sydney in 2000.

The timetabling with the AFL/NRL is a huge issue, but I would rather see the World Cup here than the Olympics, which contains a lot of sports I really don't give a stuff about at all.

There is a reason for that! :D

When the England fans apply to go overseas they can make sure anyone that has a history of trouble making doesnt get a visa, if it was held on home turf in the U.K it would be on for one and all and I dont think any security model would be likely to cope with the onslaught, especially if England play Germany in one of the matches. :?
