I'm gonna sound a bit vague here cos I can't remember the year -maybe 1983/4?
Night game at Footy Pk- 2nd game in a Double Header. Reckon it may have been Bays V Sturt?

Port had played in the opening match, and there was some sort of altercation as Port ran into the race from the oval whilst Glenelg ran from it, and at the same time all the stadium lights went out. Was about 5 minutes before the emergency lighting in the concouse area kicked in. Match was delayed by about 15 minutes I think from memory until the light towers re-booted.

Glenelg were 9 goals (57 pts) down at 3/4 time.
James West kicked the winning goal after the siren and Glenelg won by about 5pts.

Anyone who can pin-point it more accurately is welcome.

jim west kicked the winning goal & kym hodgeman was the first one jumping up into west's embrace however i always thought it was a pre-season game but the scores given seem about right (on memory)....always remembered it but didn't realise it was a double header

as for the lights going out i don't know if it was the same game but i reckon we led by a couple of goals early then the lights went out & the players went back to their respective races until the lights came on again

IIRC, the Tigers were up by ten goals against the Eagles at one stage?

But lost both.

Port led West by about nine goals in a league match under lights at Footy Park, 1994.

Scott Simister took a big grab with not much time left and kicked the winning goal.

The obituaries that appeared the next day were a little premature...

Glenelg beat Woodville by a point after being 5-7 goals down just about all day. Remember listening to it on the radio as if it was yesterday.
Also in 1990 Glenelg and West drew, something stupid like 16.22 to 19.4.

1990 ressies prelim and the bays were up by about ten goals. i have it still on tape. Matthew hill kicked 4 goals. the week later torrens went on to def port in the GF. great memories. spelly should be able to get the scores...

You're right bayman ... the above match was indeed a pre-season game.

I remember that game well. It should be realised that there was a very, very, strong wind, as evidenced by the fact that scores were about level at half-time and West kicked 8 goals in the third quarter.

Glenelg had the ball at centre wing with about 30 seconds to go. Any kick to the goalsquare would possibly have given them a good chance to score. Ross Gibbs had the ball and decided it was time for a torp. Off the side of the boot and West cleared. Siren.

The day Baldman and Wogin became a permanent fixture on the last line of defence.

Port won by 10 points.

Port won by 4 points.
David Wildy's hysterical anti-Port bias can be traced back to Greg Phillips match-saving tackle deep into time-on as Wilds was running into goal.

Round 20 v Glenelg
Port won by 3 points.
Bays had it wrapped up at 3/4 time. Led by five goals. Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of b@st@rds.

Round 22 v Norwood
Port won by 29 points.
Legs didn't kick a goal in the second half. They were so shell-shocked they didn't kick a goal in the first half in the next game v Port either (2SF).

Note: Sturt gave us a taste of our own medicine in that round 19 blockbuster at Footy Park. One stinking point! Of course, this match is infamous for that notorious thug Carl Dilena head-butting Johnno's elbow...

i have never been so devastated as after that glenelg port match back in 88, had the game shot to bits at lemon time, dominated the first few minutes of the last and missed at least one sitter, remember mcdermott on the run could and should have had a shot from about 30m instead gave off to a young mark donovan who sprayed it from 25 straight in front, the game turned from that point , then the following week it was a case of deja vu against the bloods, cost us the double chance.

As for the game at woodville in 1990, i started walking towards the southern gate at about the 20min mark of the last, all but conceding defeat, by the time i had reached the goals we had booted 3 in about 3 minutes so i hung around and saw us pull a win out of the fire, the following week i thought we were gonna make it 2 in a row when gibbsy went for the glory kick , see him now and again and never let him forget it
