My point was, I don't care about the bloody World Cup - unless it disrupts the real football season!

Heh heh. And there must be something to what he is saying or the Soccer priests wouldn't be appearing as the defenders of the faith. Still, considering the nature of the game it is no wonder the zealots become so defensive. DANG Villa drew again! Image.

When did this rule come in ?

South Africa hosting 2010, yet haven't made 3 cups in a row (Only qualified twice)
Japan only made 1 World Cup before co-hosting in 2002.

I could probably find other examples, but if you can find the reference to 3 in a row or making the finals 3 times that'd be great.

Pretty sure that was the stock standard rule, however it would appear from your examples I could be wrong. Which is crap because now Australia can actually be considered. Oh well.

I honestly dont think as a nation we really desreve to host the Soccer world cup finals. We dont have the infrastructure around the country to really have a crack at it and Im not a fan of using AFL ovals for soccer pitches, it does not have the atmosphere at a geniune soccer stadium.

I personally think it is wrong for us a country that in reality rates soccer as its fifth sport (Footy, league, Cricket, Union and then soccer) as a world cup hosting country compared to the 100s of other countries where soccer actually means somethng to the majority of the population.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Yep theres definitly that. If you look at places like Italy, Argentina, Uraguary just for starters. They live an breathe Soccer, its there number 1 sport and I would say those nations definitly deserve to host the Cup before Australia.
Although I woudnt say soccer was 5th ranked, it does live behind AFL, NRL and cricket.

Then get back to the stadiums. You cant use the MCG because its a fricken oval, to me it just doesnt seem right. I said it before in a earlier post about that issue. A purpose built soccer stadium is much better to watch soccer in, its ssoooooo much better. The atmosphere is just not there at our AFL/cricket stadiums.

Look SJABC if you think we deserve our chance then thats your opinion, but in mine we are well off it.

Couldn't care less about the world cvup ith al those fake injuries and falling down.
Get up you Soft C*#Ks you would't know what an injury was.

I don't want to see my football season messed up for 8 weeks to appease a minority sport in this country.

We can't even fill the current soccer stadiums in this country for the A-League.

They can go and get Stuffed.

Will the AFL have the balls to say no to FIFA.

Give it to the countries where it is there number 1 sport.

Let that be a lesson to you Sturt. You don't beat Glenelg 3 times in a row in Grand Finals and get away with it.

You said it! I looked in the paper the other day and saw the crowds. I looked at about 6 games, I think ONE had over 10k (Adelaide, something like 11k). Crowds were about 7-8k, a few even below.

A few seasons back there would be regular 15k crowds, the interest is dying already.

Soccer is well ahead of League and Union....

Have a good look at some of the stadiums used in previous World Cups, they are used for soccer and athletics, do the "Oval" arguement doesnt stack up

Already we have the SFS, Suncorp, ANZ, Etihad that are all soccer purpose stadiums, with upgrades to 4-5 more stadiums promised if the bid is successful...

How many NSL or A-League games did Tim Cahill play??????or Harry Kewell??? .The next generation of Socceroos are not playing in the A-League they are spread all over the world in professional leagues learning the craft already and you probably don't even know their names yet. So many(and generally the cream of talent) bypass the A-League as they did in the past with the NSL so it is NO REFLECTION AT ALL to the future of the nation side.

Here maybe but not in Sydney and Brisbane, League easily dwarfs soccer and Union test match crowds are bigger than soccer internationals and that is with a Union team that is under-performaing ATM. Wait 'till the Wallabies come good again.

I'd rather watch several sports ahead of Soccer and I sure don't want the AFL season to be interuppted because of it. However, I can see the massive benefits that holding this tournament in Australia. What I don't see is how we can actually win the bid.

We are in a crap space as far as Northern Hemisphere TV scheduling and if you think our nation of 21 million people are going to get a gig before South America or the new England bid you are dreaming. So as our battered economy tries to get out of a stumble into a slow trot, our government is contemplating spending millions of dollars to just to bid for this event? I personally find this econimically irresponsible in the extreme. I'd rather have a decent health system, especially up in Qld it's a shocker.

If you are going to say to me 'you have to be in it to win it' I ask you when was the last time you went out and bought a couple of grand worth of lottery tickets when you've got empty cupboards and your kids are sick. We are the redheaded stepkid of World Soccer and it would be pissing money in the drain and I would vote against any politican that wastes money on the bid.

Yes it varies from state to state. One thing that doesn't vary from state to state is that in no state is Soccer the number one sport. And we want to piss millions away when the fat cats will have no intention of handing out the best present under the Christmas tree to the Redheaded Stepkid.

Soccer priests...convince me, I feel really uneasy about this.
