Who can't actually remember their first SANFL match?

On this thread: viewtopic.php?f=47&t=24703 there are anecdotes by contributors on their first match and what they can remember from it.

I can't actually remember my first match definitively, but the first memory I can place specifically on a match would definitely be after my first match I attended.

Is anyone in the same scenario as me when it comes to earliest memories? And what were those memories?

I can't remember specifically my first live SANFL match, but i know it was in 1980 when i was 8 years old. That was the only year i lived in Adelaide as a kid, having lived a lot in regional areas.

Being a Port supporter it was a particularly good year to go to a lot of games though, with the premiership, Magarey Medallist, leading goalkicker etc etc.

1971 when I was 6 weeks old and no I dont remember it but it was at Norwood

I can't be certain but I reckon it was 1980 v Glenelg at Prospect. We got thrashed.

Dad may have taken me before 1980 but I can't remember if he did. In 1980 I recall v Glenelg at Prospect, v Woodville rnd 22 at Prospect, v West at Footy Park and v West at Prospect.

It may have been the West game or even Norwood but a game in Footy Park I can distinctly remember dad making a big deal about watching Barrie Robran through the binoculars. Obviously the significance was lost on a 9 year old but I do remember the bandaging he wore on that knee. It must have been one of his last games?

In the early 80s we used to go to the members' luncheon and I'd always have the fish and chips with tartare sauce (can still remember that sauce) and then watch the game.

My first game on my own was South v Norwood at Adelaide Oval in 1985. I used to catch the bus in and Adelaide Oval was the only ground that I could get to without changing buses.

I remember watching that North game at Footy Park when Robran made his comeback. It came on "The Big Replay" late that night, it was difficult at a young age to appreciate the significance, and where he stood in the SA football landscape. The commentators certainly made it obvious we were watching something significant (his comeback after his very severe injury).

I might need Spellys help with it, but it was Norwood v Glenelg at the Parade I reckon somewhere between 1978-1980 .. I know Glenelg won, and for some reason thought it was by around 3 goals (give or take a bit) ... I think I spent more time eating Tim Tams and Iced Vo-vo's than watching the footy.

I think it must have been 78 or 79, I was six or seven. In front of the grand stand at Elizabeth. I remember Peter Jonas charging towards the fence and Stephen Boehm because I couldn't believe he had glasses. The CCCEEENNTTRAALLSS chant reverberating around the ground was unbelievable.
I think I also went to an under 19s game at Woodville Oval. A young aboriginal lad took a "speccy" in the middle of the ground. When I asked my dad who it was, he said "kickett", so I asked again. It took me a while to realise that was his name.

I can't remember much about the first few I went to when I was about 12, but I remember Ron Kneebone's first game.
A known bruiser and larger player from another team tried to take the new kid out and Ron ran right through him.
It may have been Mick Clingly, from Torrens, or that one may have been a later incident...

I remember going to Elizabeth as a kid and seeing games in the late 60s early 70s. I was at the first game that the doggies beat Port.

The first game that I can clearly remember was our first final against Sturt in 71. After that I joined the cheer squad and went every week.

Bays v Legs at The Parade, about 1984. Pretty sure the Legs won.

My uncle took me, I got a pie. He was a bit simple, and got into an argument with a Legs supporter. He called the bloke a "chocolate frog".

Took me years to realise that it was rhyming slang for wog! I remember being completely confused how it was that my uncle could possibly think that chocolate frog was any sort of an insult to pull in anger.

very early 80's, couldn't believe I was watching Bagshaw run down the eastern wing at footy park, was a seasoned sturt supporter by the time 83 rolled around so I reckon my 1st was 80/81, born in 70 and was still in primary school.
Nope just done a count back and it'd have to be late 70's

The first game I can remember was at Elizabeth Oval Centrals v Norwwod circa 1970. My dad took me and my brother and we didn't watch much of the game but mainly played in the mud behind the western mound. Sometime during the third quarter I slipped over and got really muddy so dad reluctantly had to take us home.

My eldest sons first game was Centrals v Norwood at Adelaide Oval in 2004 or so. We got in for free at three quarter time and set ourselves up on the fence - he was in his pram. The first goal was Centrals and when the Doggies fans started clapping so did my son! I was so proud and thought: THATS MY BOY!!

But the next goal was Norwood and when the Redlegs fans started clapping, of course, so did my son!

Thankfully he rose above that minor hiccup and is now a true blue Centrals fan.

The third tale in this trio is my youngest sons first game 2006 or 2007 - again we got in for free at three quarter time for North v Centrals at Prospect. Centrals were up by about 100 points by then and ended up flogging the roosters.

So nothing unusual to report there.

As a 9 y.o. my first game I attended was Glenelg's only loss in 1973.

Whole family were North Supporters except for me.

My Grand Father and his brother played for North in the 1930's and for Broadview.

Dad took me to the return game in 74 which we won easy by 7 goals from memory.

Might be showing my age here but .......
My father worked Saturdays and on holiday monday...Queens birthday I think ......Norwood played Westies at Norwood.
I was maybe 8 and was playing with my friends and my parents said I had to go to the football with them. I was whinging about it and was sulking in the seats in front of my parents until........ suddenly I was calling out Come on Norwood !! My parents were laughing and said ......another Norwood fanatic is born.
Remember it was a close match and the Demons as they were called then won in the end.
Next week I was whinging that I could not go again. Brian Sawley the former State player for Norwood, his cousin lived up the road from us and I used to go with them from that point on.
