Probably the thing that annoys me more than anything about country footy, is clubs continue to screwed by players that think they are better than they are. Clubs here in the Riverland and most of the clubs in outlying districts are so vulerable to (lets just say footy sluts) travelling players who MOST times (not always) either are not up to the mark or don't get themselves 100% fit to give their best to the club. But we some times have to take a punt because we need to bolster our list with (hopefully) some quality to be competetive. I think every Riverland club has been bitten (some more that others) by these players.

Who do some of these guys think they are?? When they ask for a pay rise for the next year when they haven't really improved or helped the club improve. I would think that if they won a medal or won their club's B&F they could justify a pay rise.

Mediocrity should not be rewarded.

I say to these players, prove yourself to the club and show some loyalty and the club will look after you.

Anyone you're thinking of in particular?

Have seen a few in the past. One even had a questionable role in the planning of a footy trip.

Could go on but would do no good for anyone, at this stage I think that most club committees could give you a list of these guys.

Unfortunately all clubs need some quality to be competetive these days. UNLESS all clubs decide to quit them and just go local players only, but that is just so hard to even think about how it could be managed.

The cruel thing is that most clubs can't afford these guys. If they do go for it, they pay the price long term financially. Most clubs in the Riverland have very limited funds, some have some very generous supporters and sponsors who continue to give, what happens when the money dries up????

With the lack of employment opportunities around for players that want to relocate and do not have some sort of trade or qualifications it is really difficult to bolster the ranks this way

You raise some good points mate. No doubt.
I think Renmark did well this season - it set out to recruit heavily but targeted players who, generally, had the club at heart because that's where they came from.
I won't comment on the negatives of other clubs ;)

I am not disputing Renmark didn't deserve the Win and good luck to them. The point is ..... have our league got the balls to act if it is correct that there was an uncleared player playing.

If it is correct Loxton F.C. should not go without some sort of penalty

I was told this about a month ago and i believe there is an investigation going on from the SANFL. Apparentky it was the fella with the half rats tail sought of hair do that played across the half back line i think?

No idea what his name is but rumour has it that he came back from Adelaide to play back at Loxton and was not cleared from that club, i think Loxton didn't think they had to?

like i said this is what is what i have been told and may not be 100% correct so don't sue me!!

What is happening at Loxton North? It is leaving it pretty late to name a coach going into the very important time of recruiting players even if it is targeting ex local ones!

Any names mentioned and perhaps they have made a mistake focussing on attracting a player coach which was a pretty clear message when you read the advertisement they put in the paper?
