Is there any early news on player movements, coaching appointments ( any grade - both divs) ?

Wolver ... believe past Gawler Central 2001 premiership player Kym Herrmann, also a premiership coach at Hamley Bridge, has been appointed to coach Callington next year. Apparently has already signed a number of players to bring with him, so possibly things looking up for the Eagles ... still the only way to go I guess!
Craig Bensch has taken over as playing coach of Blackwood's Country A-grade side.
Wayne Hughes interested in continuing at Kersbrook, may well hinge on whether Brett James wants to return home, or go again with Norwood.

BM - to add to yours - rumour (and I stress rumour) a while ago was that Paul James had got the DCM from Norwood, and that both of them would be back there. First part wouldn't surprise, but would have thought Norwood would have found Brett a coaching role if he was going to retire

Have heard that David Murphy has stepped down as captain for 2007. Simon Nunan and Clint Rogers are tipped to be the main candidates.
Div 2 is ordinary football compared to div 1 but there are some good footballers playing. C Dawe, Reid brothers, Kanga top liners must go ok, Torrens Valley. Although one wonders how Tim Knappstein can kick 40 A grade goals in div 2 as he couldn't kick over a jam tin at Hahndorf.

I'm not saying the top few footballers in Div 2 would be stars in Div 1, but I believe there are good Div 2 footballers who would make solid conitrbutions in a Div 1 side.

If the standard is so bad, how can Blackwood's "2nd" team not make Div 2 A grade finals, yet their "3rd" team can challenge for a GF spot in Div 1 B Grade?

Know they were interested in former Sturt Assistant Michael Bowden (spelling?) and I was going to keep my trap shut about it but since he's just been appointed to the senior position at Echunga, I don't think it will matter too much that I've said it. Apparently he was mainly interested in Echunga because he's just moved to Mylor and it was closer (gee, those extra 8 kms would have been a killer!!!!). Know there will be a few smart souls out there who will say they know why but the attitude at Echunga ain't that great at the moment and I know one G Mullins had already decided about half way through the season that he wasn't going to coach there again the next year.
Apparently Bowden is only 32 and is keen to play and is quite handy so Echunga have really managed to fall on their feet yet again.

While Bawden mite be a good appointment, I remember the Dees proclaiming their luck previously with the signings of the likes of Phil Keenihan, Brock Gifford and then Greg Mullins ... surely the coach can't always be wrong ... as you suggest, may be Echunga need to put more mirrors up for a long hard look at where they really go wrong! Any word on if Blakey has been reappointed to Meadows, probably deserves to be after a good first-up effort, although had the cattle to go four places higher?
Interesting to see back to the future at Hahndorf with Gazza Carlson ... maybe they can get 80's Magpie back on deck as interstate scout?

yes it is very interesting to go a long way back to a coach of the past. mind you he is a coach that every player at hahndorf then would play for. very good at training and match day. in all was a very good coach and club man. time will tell.

If they recruit a heap of players, no doubt Blake will get shafted and they will give the job to a local favourite like they did five years ago.

Interesting to hear the comments about the two divisions and no one is disputing that Central is far superior but the communities in that division are far bigger.
Country pales in comparison to Central division which in turn pales in comparison to say the Western Border League.
I doubt one particular poster has even seen a Country division match.

I think you Centrals blokes get a bit carried away with your own abilities, and Special K i doubt you have any at all.

I can tell you i have played with ex SANFL and AFL players, who without quality players around them were just average (look at this season. Cook, Ormond Allen). Their are at least 3-4 players in the top 8 clubs that would slot in to Div 1 sides, granted the overall standard of the competition is lower but the guys that can play earn the footy. If these players were surrounded by quality i am sure you would see some stars emerge.

Gary Carlson, bugger he's that old he was my primary school teacher. Great bloke and deep thinker with good communication skills.

I think that half of these Central followers/players or who ever they are, do seem to blow a bit of wind up their sails, or maybe to the point, they bag the counrty division a hell of a lot. It is fair to say that there would be players running around in division 2 who would be guns in division 1. And I am sure there would be players who are guns in div 2 who might not be able to make the step up to div 1. I agree with the good Doc that the standard of footballers around players can make players rise to become better players.

So until teams actually played against each other, we can only just talk about it.

But wanted to stress to you central boys out there that slagging the div 2 comp could bite you in the ass. With Birdwood coming up next year, who knows how they will be, by the end of the year, some of their players may improve and upset a Uri, Onkas or Lofty side. You just never know!

raiders finished 2nd bottom. terrible year with injuries and lack of depth in club. julian snowden is coaching and will continue coaching at this stage in 2007. rumour going around coles is that there are a few quality players already signed up to the shanty in 2007 and not playing for much coin at all. heard from 2 recent recruits about the club and more than willing to play for shanty! have lost a recent captain a sweet already as moving away.

Information on Bridgewater Football Club:-
Worst facilities in HFL - there oval and changerooms are under water for the majority of the season, the fence around the oval collapses on a regular basis, and they insist on defacing their own facilities with blatant grafitti. There oval is the size of your average primary school oval and they have arguably the worst set up for viewing football in the HFL. But apart from that they're going great.
2006 - They finished second to last behind a woeful Ironbank, and correct me if I'm wrong I think they actually lost to Ironbank during the 2006 season. There juniors also struggled, especially at u17 level.
2007- Anyone planning on heading to Bridgewater as a recruit next season - good luck, I think you are gonna need it.

PS That might sound a little harsh, but I have stated nothing but cold hard facts!
