Trade Week

Postby Magpiespower » Fri Oct 09, 2009 1:30 pm

Finally some good came out of 2009.

Three first round draft picks - 8, 9, 16.

Plus Schulz and Nash.

Pretty productive week...

Im happy with that.

Lose Burgoyne, big loss, but 3 of the first 16 in what is the last "real" draft for a while is Gold.

Just need to use them well now.

Nash and Schulz add depth to a list that sorely needs it.

Some people are bagging the trade for Schulz but I've always thought he could be a decent player in the right environment. Didn't have to give up much to get him either, worth a punt for sure.

Good collection of draft picks there too, should be able to have a good crack at the last uncompromised draft with them.

I agree ... There's no question he has ability, finding the required consistency has thus far proven a pretty big obstacle though.

Who knows, maybe his style didn't suit the Richo-centric Richmond forward line? Either way, I think Port's investment is worth a go ... Whether it succeeds or fails only father time will reveal.

I agree it's a good outcome for Port considering they lose Burgoyne.

I looked up Jay Nash and he seems a likely type.

If the established guys don't want to play for Port right now then grab a couple of SA lads and stock up the draft picks.

I think they've done well.

CP, Richo barely played this year. And last year he spent a lot of time outside the forward line, playing on a wing.

Yeah I know mate, but for the majority of his time at (boom boom boom) Tigerland Richo has been their key forward ... I think the club had lost a fair degree of patience with Schultz in the last year or two, as they did with Pettifer (and rightly so) and may soon do with Hughes (if they haven't already).

Do you think Port is the right environment ?

Hah! I knew someone would pick up on that one.

It's a different environment for him at the very least anyway. He's closer to home too which will be good for him.

I hope he does well.... I'm just thinking that over the years the environment at Richmond hasn't been what you could call stable and he's entering a Port environment that appears to have it's issues also. I know these things probably mean squat to him as a footballer and what he can/will do but I guess good footballers will rise to the top despite the environment.... Lets see how he goes hey !!

I reckon that Nash will do well for the Power. He's a fair size of a lad.

Until today I had never taken much notice of Shaun Burgoyne.
I thought the footage shown on TV of him on crutches was older footage, but today I see him on crutches in his Hawthorn T-shirt.
Can someone fill me in on what the problem is.
PS - Happy to get him but would've preferred a ruckman especially since Campbell retired.
Thanks

I'd heard it was bone-on-bone which seems pretty common, but might need one of the Power boys to confirm mate.

3 first round draft picks is a pretty good outcome, as is Nash and Schulz. My only issue is my pessimism about my club picking up 3 fantastic outside runners/half back flankers and not what we really need.

Nash will be a very good pick up. watch chocco instill the confidence in him that has been lacking until now and he will take his game to another level and become a high quality, dependable player for the power. essendons loss.
