Want to be an SANFL League Footballer ?

Postby Big Phil » Thu Oct 08, 2009 3:45 pm

Do you think you are good enough to become an SANFL footballer ?

Image

Interesting that the North Adelaide Football Club are this weekend giving an open invitation to anyone that thinks they have what it takes to make it at SANFL level with a 'come out & try' type initiative. I remember Norwood trying this a couple of seasons ago and think it is a good idea but not so sure there have been any massive success stories to come from it in the past...

I know when I was helping out at Central's in 95 and 96 they had a similar thing but generally speaking you get heaps of guys that think they are up to it but struggle after one training session. Good on North for trying it, will be interesting to see if they can maybe 'jag' a couple of handy recruits, speaking of which, they will have Luke Ivens return back to the club in 2010...

Was it "Doug" Cox who walked onto the oval at Thebby around '79-'80, and asked Kerls for a tryout? Went on to play for St. Kilda

Legend has it that Gilby McAdam just walked off the street into Centrals, having been at two other clubs.

Yes but he's retired and Norf was one of the clubs that rejected him so I don't think he will apply

Is a great movie that yours truly mentioned on the good movies thread a while back.

Personally think it's a good idea for North to do but hope they don't limit it to sprint times and vertical leap ability.

I reckon its a great idea! I dont think they are the only club to have tried this initiative.
Norwood tried this a few years ago.
I'm sure there are some gems of players out there that are not in the SANFL system just waiting to be discovered.
I just hope/wish the panthers could find a good handful of them!

Great Idea, wouldn't cost much to run and if you find one gem every few years that would more than make up for costs.
