I recall the chicken dance being done as part of the half-time 'entertainment', it was sometime between 89-92. The response of 40 - 50 thousand groans from the crowd when it started was the most entertaining part.

Apparently security were checking people for weapons on the way in that day. Making sure enough people had them.

As disappointing as it is to say, from where I was sitting on the eastern side of the ground, northern half forward flank, I reckon the crowd around us was 2/3 Centrals fans... that might be a miscalculation by me, maybe more Sturt fans were there, but overall, on the day, it looked like Centrals had the numbers.

FWIW I thought the Centrals fans (99.9% of them) were well behaved. There was one knob nearby, but then my parents, who were elsewhere barracking for Sturt, said they were appalled by one Sturt fan in their area...

... but certainly, I thought they were well behaved and no one rubbed it in to me as I left the ground after full time.

I think your pretty close, there it was hard for me to tell what the split was as i spent al day where Central supporters were going to be.

I thought there was alot less Sturt supporters there this year than in 2002, in 2002 i think Sturt supporters outnumbered the Dogs supporters, the Sturt cheersquad was also massive in 02, they were right behind the souther goals and probably went back 15-20 rows

Plenty more Centrals fans than Sturt fans in my opinion.

So who is everyones vote for the jerry D'antochia award this year for Worst on Ground in the GF.

Im thinking it was out of Johncock or Bratton ????

Any other nominations. ???

I know John Hinge last years winner be looking forward to present the award to this years winner.

SO did anybody else down the southern end in the last quarter see the two Sturt fans fighting. How fitting that was.

Im sure it was because of the flares. Good to see the Sturt fans controlled themsleves and didnt spit on an official this week.

BTW thankyou Dutchy again for the photos.

Some of you peanuts really turn people off this site.
Any decent thread gets hijacked by tossers wanting to turn it into some tribal warfare rubbish.

If this sort of thing gets your rocks off then go for it.

But I am happy posting to sites where some half way decent debate still occurs, and it sure as hell ain't here.

I have just seen it.
I stayed away from radio and waited for the DVD and had a few beers and watched it just now, and I have read none of this thread. I am watching Dogs players jumping around as happy as little beavers with a bunch of sticks and a river that needs blocking up.
I thought we did alright in a few aspects of our game but just really screwed up with the finishing.
The lads kept trying until the end.
They probably were still in with a chance right up until Sansbury kicked that last goal. They had so much possession in the last quarter up to that point but as was the story for most of the day they just didn't convert it. Shots from inside 50 that went astray cost us at key points of the game.
That Buckets dude stifled many attacks. Just being there and taking defensive grabs in the way of the forward on the lead was a big problem. Those Gowans always had poise whenever they grabbed the pill, their awareness of what was happening around them was damaging. In spite of the pressure we attempted to apply the coolness of these blokes and others allowed the Dogs to finish off the work created as a team. The Blues crucially just didn't finsih IMO.
I believe we were good enough to take it away, as in we had the skills the plan, the physical strength, but just wasted opportunitities where the Dogs were rewarding themselves.
At times like these it seems to be taboo on this site to blast off ill feelings at the enemy, so everyone does the right thing and pays their respects to the better side. Whatever the decorum may be, it seems like there isn't much else to do but acknowledge the dominant performance of Central in the Grand Final 2009. We were simply outplayed by the more complete side, and they well deserve to celebrate hard until business begins next year.

I just hope it is us next year running around Footy Park with the Cup.
Congratulations CDFC. I don't know if there'll ever be another decade of such punishing dominance by a club in the SANFL.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail
