a cricket match in 1993 between Western Youth + Woodville Districts cricket clubs.
REB + Booney this is truth and nothing but the truth.
Western Youth batted first in the first game of the year in October 1993 in division 3
WYC were 4/11 and in insurmountable trouble and in strode this very young
lad called BOONEY.
Young BOONEY helped his side to 9/55 having made a very sedate 17, top scoring.
His SPELL CHECK scoring shots were 111111111422.
WYC were finally out for a pathetic 58 in 36 overs.
Im not sure exactly what eventuated but it did rain for a while and the game
was in danger of being abandoned.
WDCC then eventually batted and were in early trouble at 2/5 and in strode the
premier WDCC batsmen the elegant stylish brilliant stroke maker MAL.
With black clouds and inclement weather a factor MAL decide to attack the bowlers
and played a majestic hand in scoring an excillerating 30, top scoring AGAIN.
MALS SPELL CHECK scoring shots 231416111111211111
WDCC on MALS dismissal were 5/49 after at one stage being 2/39 chasing that pathetic 58.
Then it was 6/50
Then it was 6/58 and we needed 1 run to win the game.
6/58 became 7/58 then 8/58 then 9/58 what the.....
The number 11 batsmen, was our A grade fast bowler [Harvey] who at 6/58 left the
ground to go and watch the Agrade at United Districts ground a kilometre away, oblivious
to the fact that a collapse was to happen.
He didnt get back in time so we were stranded on 9/58 and the match a TIE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was a dejected figure after the collapse and worst was to follow , the scorebooks did not
balance and when the books were checked it was revealed that the WDCC score added to 56.
So we bloody lost by 2 runs !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am looking at the scores right now, after 13 years the books dont lie and BOONEY wins.
We were pissed off and put WYC in for a second dig and had them 2/26
BOONEY opened the batting and was 19 not out 111646 were his shots,
hitting 2 massive sixes of our fast bowler Mcneil[fox]
From memory the rain ended the contest.
Just for the record WDCC had the last laugh as WYC missed playing finals
and WDCC after losing thier first 4 games won thier last 8 games to win the flag,
brilliantly led by thier captain, the one and only MAL.
First final Norwood 100 WDCC after being 9/76 win all out 106
Grand final Port Districts 178 WDCC after being 7/83 + 9/152 win 9/184
We won the close ones when it mattered !
So thats the story without any fabrication BOONEY/REB
I reckon REB played that game batting at number 4
