The flares are a disgrace - I was standing under the northern stand before the start of the 2008 GF and a bunch of drunken Central louts were chanting and letting off flares and the security and police staff in the area made no effort at all to stop it - almost like they were scared. the simple answer is to evict anyone caught with them if that means evicting the whole pack of yobboes well so be it.

I don't really care either way about the flares but I can see how others are put off or annoyed by them.
Hence, if you have a problem email/write/ring the SANFL and express your opinion to them.

I hate to do this to you DW but here was your opinion after last year's GF:

Your stupidity is a poor reflection on what should have been a wonderful celebration at the southern end. I will support any punishment meted out to this DH.

Why so ambivalent this year?

PS: I only did this because I was sure you got fired up last year about it

Centrals' fans passion for their club and the SANFL = AAA+++ .... the tiny minority with the flares = D-

dropping a flare to the ground is perfectly safe, throwing one is another story, totally unacceptable.
have u ever heard of anyone being injured whilst dancing around a smoking flare????

I can remember flares from around the early 90's

 See it is poeple like you, that actually think it is "perfectly safe" that show just how immature the people are who bring them to the game.

"smoking"flares burn first, burns are painful. Really....

Any nearby asthmatic could be injured, and may even die.
My wife died after smoke from burning off in the Dandenong Ranges, outside regulated hours before we shut the windows, triggered a bad asthma attack.

Totally fair question, and when I made the post in this thread, I thought I should allude to my comments last year, but didn't.
As Smac pointed out - my issue with it was that some moron threw it.
I am ambivalent about the flares. I agree it is illegal to use them incorrectly and probably stupid.
However, this year the flares were kept within the confines of those who lit them. No damage was done. (BTW - I was right next to one of the flares but didn't see who lit it, and I have a photo of the person holding the second flare in the air but can't see his face and I'm pretty certain the police moved in on him and got him anyway).
The CDFC does have an 'image' problem in regards to this because people will find reason to criticise - fair enough too.
Whether it has to do anything about it? Well that's up to the club.
My question is - if something is done about this and flares are stamped out, what will opposition supporters

I'm not sure why criticising people going end to end has been brought up in this debate. What's wrong with that?

One thing I'm glad of is that the SANFL thought of the kids this year and put playground equipment in the stadium. Those giant slippery dips are fantastic!

I briefly considered it at the first final but thought the bumps where the seats were might hurt a bit too much especially if I went down on my tummy.

I saw a guy get "removed" for walking on the plastic after the game. I wonder if you can get fined for walking on plastic.
