Are you happy with supporters lighting up flares at footy games, and do you think that it should be a part of SANFL footy/aussie rules. Do you want this to be a regular occurrance.

If its happening repeatedly then maybe it is part of it already?
How do you stop it then? Bags are already being checked what else do you do?

They don't check the bags properly. They don't take everything out of the bags to see if people are bringing anything illegal in. People are hiding the flares in flags, scarfs and jumpers and nothing is being done about it.

Its not like the crowd of just over 35k was unexpected. Why don't they do similar for Power games and cover every seat except for one of the grandstands?
Morons.

well my beef is why cover seats that would have been used? especially by Central supporters..if there going to block them off..block the unpopular seating off..like the Northern Stand area., but surely they must have known that the crowd would have been over 35K, and that Centrals supporters are transient each quarter.
I thought that the SANFL was trying to encourage more people to watch SANFL not restrict their access to seats...IMHO Corporate $ taking over common sense!!

I don't about you MEagle...but I actually like to get into the game gates rather quickly...it would be about an hour a person to do what your suggesting...and most would miss the game.

Why does anyone feel the need to let flares off at the football at all? What exactly is it proving, and exactly what purpose does it serve?[/quote]

That's a fair question, i don't understand the mentality, i hate the yob like culture and all it's s**t, but maybe someone could enlighten.

too damm close..and I couldn't identify the culprit as I was watching the game at the time...not the crowd (I thought that was Securities job)...all they did was put something over the flare..and walked away!

Yes, Yes and No.

The only reason I would want it to stop completely would be to shut up whingers. I think it adds to the event. I appreciate others don't but I haven't been forcing my opinion on others.

Surely you can tell that ( the advertising ) was there for the first three weeks of finals to encourage people to sit together and not have 15k spread out over the whole stadium?

Sure, remove some of them for the GF but I would expect the SANFL would have been pleasantly surprised at 35k for the GF.

BTW, they can stay for the Port games, our crowds are low and it wouldn't detract from the atmosphere. Good idea IMO.

look I don't know exactly why, but probably when they think the games won they light the flare as a signal to all...a bit like Jooper (from Collingwood) putting hes Gold jacket on...

Dunno if they would have been suprised, only had to look at last years crowd to assume in good weather 35k was easily attainable...

So you're saying that letting off flares at the ground helps the supporters to network in the seats? :-?

Agreed, I predicted 35k maybe a bit more using a bit of logic. Surely the SANFL marketing gurus should have at least s much idea as me?

But there were more than 35k empty seats so why is the advertising an issue? It assisted the atmosphere by bunching the crowd together more and gained some exposure for sponsors - putting them anywhere else would have seen them rarely on TV and the sponsorship return would have diminished. Any $$ going into our game that are not driven by AFL are valuable $.

I think you meant there were more than 15k empty seats...my beef is the choice of bays that were restricted, both southern and northern side right near the goal area...knowing Centrals supporters like to move around.

No, I meant more than 35k empty seats to start with, meaning plenty of room for everyone. The choice of seats was about TV exposure for sponsors, not Centrals supporters. If they had it in for Centrals supporters, would security have been so slack?

There was security there?

Obviously some of the posters on here would have been aware of who the "flare people" are. If anyone on here knows the people involved, what sort of people are they? I'm trying to understand what the appeal is.
