How much impact do Centrals fans think the retirement of the Gowans boys will have (whenever that happens)?

Can the other 8 clubs hold out any hope here? I am afraid the answer will be no :(

The dogs will eventually miss out on making a GF which is just reality, but with the structures in place at elizabeth you would think that they would make the finals almost every year thus giving them a good chance to make a GF .
Look back to 06 when we lost some of the best players in the clubs history, we still made the GF. Even though we lost that GF we still got through the year with almost a whole new list of players and a whole heap of injuries.
So the teams dominance may take a dent every now and then but i cant see the clubs dominance ever ending, reallistically it can only get stronger, and if the other 8 clubs dont get a wriggle on they may be left behind.

A lot of Port supporters felt this way about 10 - 15 years ago.

While I don't see the Dogs missing the finals for a few years yet, it will happen eventually... Nothing lasts forever...

True, but ports dominance was destroyed by the power. As soon as the power joined the AFL the magpies were kicked out and sent to a tin shed at ethelton.
The facilities at elizabeth can only get better which is my point.

Lets take a look at the other 9 clubs and how far off they are from CDFC

GLENELG 18s top ressies top so depth wise not to far hopefully pick up a couple of recuits BUT we have a mental problem with CDFC and finals

STURT Further away than we think great effort to get the GF but game was done and dusted by quarter time and Central never got out of second gear

EAGLES Interesting new coach could have easily been in a Prelim Ressies should have won the flag they will be around the mark again

NORTH On the up no doubt but still a long way off

NORWOOD New coach heading in the right direction slow steps however

PORT.WA. SOUTH Long way off will have no impact for a while

So barring injuries or a AFL liecence its not a case of who can win the flag but who will pick it up when the Dogs drop it

Interesting question. The Gowans have contributed both on-field and as leaders off the field. I beleive that teh reason the club has been successful is we changed the club culture and the Gowans along with others like Hulm were instrumental in that change.

The question is will that culture continue after they are gone? I hope so. Time will tell.
We used to be good :-(

Would you be able to fit these guys in to the salary cap, honest question not poking fun, obviously Dew would be worth a bit. In general i would've thought the new salary cap could stop a few clubs from recruiting for next year, will be interesting to see if a couple of you younger guns like Dutschke, Havelberg or Ohara get picked up in the draft this year.

Add to that O'Sullivan is likely to miss a fair portion of next season. Money wouldn't be an issue for Stewie Dew as he would be coming back to end his career, Elijah Ware couldn't demand to much money as HE left Central and now wants to come back.

There may also be retirements now from players such as Switala, Schell, MacKenzie and Cochrane.

We will fit everyone in, what We do is when We get paid, We transfer a shit-load of Our wages/salaries into a secret bank account that only the recruits have access to, via a Visa card. but don't tell anyone.

Switala will not be retiring.
As of Tuesday, no one, apart from Slade, had announced their retirement.

good news, very handy player, The only reason i put him to my list of possible retirees was mainly due to his age and by the sounds of things his work commitments under rick macgowan are getting busier and busier as each year passes. glad to hear he hasn't retired.

Id say he will be with the Roos on the Senior list, after 3 years on the Rookie they have to upgrade or lose him, so something definate will come of it.

Roos have already delisted 7 players and he wasnt one, we need a replacement for Gibson and he is ideal, he also played great in the last few games and in wins against the Saints and Power.

Id be shocked if he wasnt with us in 2010, 190cm defenders who can play dont grow on trees

Yeah, you are right, i am probably thinking of Nathan Grima there, I remember you posting something about it a few months ago when there was speculation that he was going to be delisted by the Roos and then would have potentially had the dilemma of coming back to Adelaide to play for the Dogs again or with his brothers Todd and Alex at the Bay.
