He's untried at League level, like so many successful coaches have been.

All I know is that he was always extremely highly regarded at Westies and obviously continued that at the Bays.

Having known him from his days at West, I can only say I rate him as highly as anyone I've known there.

He took westies ressies from bottom to 5th IIRC then just missed the finals the following year. Then went to the bay and coached them to a flag in the magoos in his first or second year,?. He has also as others have stated coached the under 20's and was an assistant for the state side this year.

Was good to see Micky Godden having a chat to a few of the Eagles league boys watching the ressies...

Saw him talking a while to Cicca, perhaps asking him if he will retire when their season is over, as reported by Ashley Porter in this week's Inside Football magazine...

Not sure how many times Eagles have made and lost the GF in the seconds in the last few years.

Hopefully the trend of league grand final appearances in the same year or following years after reserves grand final appearances continues:
Reserves 1991, 1992, 1993 / League 1993, 1994
Reserves 2000, 2001 / League 2000, 2001
Reserves 2004 / League 2004, 2005, 2006
Reserves 2008, 2009, ???? / League ????

With Sturt making the league grand final this year after their reserves grand final win last year, I wonder whether it is frequent that a reserves grand finalist will progress to a league grand final 1-2 years later?

I didn't see the game but based merely on the size of the comeback, you would have to guess that a few good coaching moves would have been made today.

All things being equal, it seems the best non-league SANFL coach of 2009 has been chosen ... or at least the coach of the best non-league SANFL team. How long is it until the start of the 2010 season? ;)

North won it in 2005 and 2006 then made the League GF in 2007
Glenelg won it in 2007 and made it in 2008

But the last time the Reserves runners up had the League make the Grand Final the following year was Central in 2001/02

A lot to do with the Eagles demise today was the lack of hard matches in the last five weeks. Only one game (which was very soft) in five weeks is no preparation for a grand final. While our fitness was there in the first half the Eagles were clearly the better team. Its hard to emulate competitive matches at training.

I did say in the preview of this match that you could argue it was good or bad to have the rest.
But if anyone actually came out and saw or played in the Reserves matches only, (and I am putting myself into this scenario), you feel like you are waiting a long time for the next match to come. The 2nd Semi, if it is true, some of the Central players were recovering from gastro. Not a good way to prepare for a match, and as a result it was bordering on training drill stuff at times.

Also, it was easier for a side to win the Reserves flag from 4th or 5th because there was just one win separating 1st from 5th. We had to come up against a dominating Sturt side in last years grand final who were 8 wins and a colossal 16.71% ahead on percentage.

That was the difference between 1st and 4th. This year, Glenelg were just half a game behind and actually 0.53% ahead on percentage.

Look I respect what you say , but having seen the second half in person , skill level and decision making will be high on the agenda for alot of our blokes when the new sheriff arrives in town ! A few goals in the 3rd quarter and its too far to be caught .
