I love 'Food and Stuff'. It's where I buy all of my food. And most of my stuff.

I bought that one last time I went to Oz. I found out more about Afghanistan in that short book than the rest of my life combined. I was real impressed with it.

Recently I have read a few Grishams. "The Associate", "The Appeal", "The Street Lawyer", "The Last Juror".
I wanted to read a Larry Niven "Ringworld" novel after reading a favourable review. But the review didn't mention that it was a series of books and I just picked up the first one I saw. Now I have to track down the first two books before I can read the one I have, which is the last in the series! It is sometimes hard to get English versions of novels in Japan, and I am faced with that challenege now.

Currently reading a book that a friend loaned to me; "World Made By Hand" by James Howard Kunstler.
Great book so far, extremely well written, but I always feel the need to exercise care when I say the last name of the author. I don't know if he'd appreciate being called a "counsellor". ;)
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

Currently reading a book called "Got to be there".

It won't mean anything to anyone on here as it's about a Burnley fanatic called Dave Burnley (yep, he changed his name to Burnley by deed poll)

He hasn't missed a competitive game in 35 years, a feat that is quite amazing in itself, but considering that he lives 125kms from burnley and he doesn't drive makes the feat even more amazing. And when we say he hasn't missed a competitve game, that means home and away, including their pre-season friendly tour of the states. He is just your average Joe too, not some wealthy dude that doesn't need to work a forty hour week.

Great read with some great anecdotes.

Haven't read a Sci-Fi novel for long time, but just finished an interesting one by
Philip Palmer. It's called 'Debatable Space'. A wild ride with even wilder possibilities
for the future. A well written and as plausible a scenario as I've ever read when
dealing with what could lay 'light years' ahead, including connections with now.
There's piracy, amazing technology, aliens, robotics, slavery, blackmail and somehow
most of the characters find time for sex in most chapters, if not most pages.
Just starting 'The Greatest Show On Earth' (The evidence for evolution)
by Richard Dawkins. I hope my great, great, great grandfather gets a mention.
No, he wasn't a :(|) .....he was on board The Beagle with Charles Darwin ! :-)

I didn't realise until I started reading it that this is a kid's book. It's a modern take on Lord of the Flies but with zombies. Pretty full on for kids. I'm loving it. It could be the new Harry Potter. Look forward to the next release.

All 'pi$$ and wind'.

Mate is a big Kerouac fan and he reakons Big Sur is his best.

Know a-lot of people that read On the Road when they were younger and loved it.

Ditto for others who read it when they were travelling.

Just hope you're not as disappointed as I was...

I tried On The Road a long time ago. Didn't get more than a quarter of the way into it before I cast it aside, and believe me I really try to finish any book that I start. Nothing happens. To call this book boring would be an understatement.

Have just finished On The Road.
Tend to agree with these comments.
Enjoyed the first half of it, thought it was building into something, but the second half was more of the same and a bit of a waste really - reflective of Dean and Sal's life "on the road".
