Last year we had great finals crowds. Has this year been any less than the previous 5 years before 2008? Also, as Phil mentioned, the popularity of Adelaide Oval for Sanfl finals, plus the numbers who would have gone over to the Adelaide/Collingwood final on the first week on the finals - this could have likely added 2-3000 to the figure. Plus amatuer and country finals seemed to be more condensed into the two weekends this year compared to more spread out as normal.
The Eagles cop their fair share about crowd numbers, so I could easily argue why aren't Glenelg, Sturt and Centrals copping the same flak, instead of trying to stand up for them.
FWIW 31500-32000. Would love to see 37-38000

26500. Would've been 10k more with Sturt v Glenelg.

Dont under estimate the malaise [people feel with the same team in the GF continuously. Even the last Port v Norwood GF didn't sell out, it was getting boring with Port there at the time.

Surprised those McMuppets didn't organise a Slowdown against it and probably would have if AO hadn't been in pieces.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

35,000, maybe more. Media coverage has been great and I feel more interest in this GF than any other for a long long time for some reason. Sturt play a great brand of footy too.

Chanel 7 have decided to replay the Slowdown up against the Grand Final.
Those type of people that have a limited interest in football might choose that over attending the ultimate game.

28,724. The game warrants a lot more but the attendances at this years finals have been quite disappointing...

It shows they must be worried about the ratings that ABC will get. This is good news.

Easy scapegoat, FlyingHigh. I recall two years ago that 7,794 at the preliminary final came under fire - with two teams that have an infinite more support than ours, why isn't 8,184 under the same scrutiny?

Even in 2003 (and I love this fact) there were 10,133 to the Preliminary Final. Who played that day?

The reason we haven't copped any flak this year is because these damn finals have been at Footy Park. No-one wants to catch 2 buses or drive that far to go there.
The only advantage of it is that everyone who was a contender for this years GF got to play there before the GF.
BTW, I'm thinking 32,694 and I'll admit this much, if we are up at halftime another 5000 Sturt supporters (?) will rock up again in the 3rd qtr as they did in 02. You people know who you are.

Sadly I think they will be pushing to get 25 000.

While I'm really grateful to the ABC for their coverage - and this is something we should NEVER take for granted - I dearly wish it wasn't on live (or virtually live). Kills any chance of luring back those once-fans who have strayed to the dark side....
