I work in the banking industry and I can confirm, It is definitly who you deal with rather than which bank you deal with, Bit like anythink really, some rules can be bent and some cant. Some people choose to be really inflexable to deal with, and some genuinely want to help you out. I would also suggest either speaking to an above manager or the ombasman if you have unresolved issues.

New bank, new loan, discharge the old one?
Or have they got a clause to stop that?

I have a mate who is a lender, I'll leave it up to him to work things out from here, the bank still hasn't returned my e-mail, it's funny considering I have 40+ e-mails from them over the past 3 weeks and generally any enquiry was responded to within half an hour.

Maybe someone is listening - but you'll need to read the fine print...

ANZ wrote:From 15th December 2009, we’re simplifying our fee structure to provide you with clear and straightforward banking. The key changes for ANZ personal accounts are:
Removing 27 different fees across our personal accounts
Reducing dishonour fees, overlimit and late payment fees
Removing overdrawn fees when the overdrawn amount is less then $50 on ANZ personal transaction accounts
Limiting the number of times overdrawn fees will be charged on ANZ personal accounts

We’ll also be making a small increase on the Monthly Account Service fee charged on ANZ Access Advantage and ANZ Access Select.
